    A major West Yorkshire road is to remain closed following a "serious" crash, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    A motorcylist has been injured in a crash involving another vehicle, with the air ambulance being called.

    It happened at about 08:35 this morning on the westbound carriageway between junction 31 and junction 30.

    Both the westbound and eastbound carriageways were closed as the air ambulance landed, with the westbound carriageway currently remaining closed.

    It's not clear how long the road will need to be closed for, but West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit says its officers will get traffic moving "as soon as possible".

    A motorbike rider has been injured in a crash on the M62 this morning.

    Police were called at about 08:35 to reports of an incident on the M62 westbound near Wakefield, between junction 31 for the A655 and junction 30 for the A642.

    The road has since been closed.

    The air ambulance is at the scene as emergency services deal with the crash, which also involved another vehicle.

  3. Search for missing Barnsley man 'could be widened'published at 09:14 British Summer Time 20 August 2019

    Police say they may have to widen their search area in their efforts to find an 80-year-old man from Barnsley who's been missing from home since Friday.

    It's thought Brian Tomlinson could have become disorientated after a trip into the town centre.

    Up to 50 police officers are looking for him, with mountain rescue teams and firefighters joining in the search.

    The last sighting of Mr Tomlinson was on Friday evening at about 20:00 on Pontefract Road - the wrong direction for him to be heading home to Wombwell.

    Anyone who sees him is being asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.

  5. West Yorkshire rail upgrade on trackpublished at 08:34 British Summer Time 20 August 2019

    More details have been released about plans to upgrade part of the rail line between Leeds and Manchester as part of a £2.9bn upgrade by Network Rail.

    The upgrade looks at the TransPennine line between Huddersfield and Dewsbury and could see more rail lines, station revamps and the electrification of the line.

    It will mean that four lines will run on the eight-mile stretch, allowing more trains to travel on that section of track.

    Huddersfield, Deighton, Mirfield and Ravensthorpe stations will get "major upgrades", according to Network Rail.

    Work could start in 2022 following a decision being made by the government.

    She has shoulder length blonde hair with a slight wave shaved at one side and she currently has a black eye with a cut underneath it.

    An image of firefighters captured on camera tackling a moorland fire in West Yorkshire has been shared on social media as part of World Photography Day.

    West Yorkshire Fire Service took part in the annual worldwide celebration of the art and history of photography, saying: "We don't want to take more of these photos."

    Earlier this year, Marsden Moor near Huddersfield saw a spate of fires.

    The most recent blaze, in April, covered an estimated 6 sq miles of wildlife habitat.

    The National Trust said the fire at Easter Gate was "most likely" caused by a discarded barbecue.

    Jewellery valued at more than £5,000 has been recovered after being stolen in a burglary, say police.

    The burglary happened at a property on Cottingham Road in Hull between 19:30 and 22:15 on 7 August.

    The jewellery and several bank cards were taken from an upstairs room while the 72-year-old homeowner was still in the property.

    According to police, the jewellery was later found at an address on Beverley Road in Hull and has been returned to the owner.

    The Humberside force says it is still looking for a suspect in connection with the theft and is asking for anyone with information about it to get in touch.

    It's reported that a car sales company sold three cars in March to a man in Sheffield.

    Two of the vehicles were driven to London with a third vehicle being driven to Birmingham.

    The money for the vehicles was never paid after the account used was closed following fraudulent activity, police say.

    The man pictured could help police with inquiries, South Yorkshire Police say.

    Up to 15 men broke in to a Hull man's flat and attacked him, police say.

    It happened at a property on Anlaby Road on Friday night in what police believe may have been a case of mistaken identity.

    The victim suffered a fractured eye socket, a broken bone in his back and cuts and bruising to his head, face and body.

    The only description of the suspects is that they were all aged between 40 and 50 years old with possibly up to 15 of them.

    A woman found dead in the sea off south Devon was visiting the county from Huddersfield, an inquest has heard.

    The body of 49-year-old Tracy Knott, from Kirkheaton, was recovered after police were called to water near Brixham's Freshwater Quarry car park, in Torbay, early on 11 August.

    The inquest, at Plymouth’s Coroner’s Court, was opened and adjourned. It is expected to continue later in the year.

    A man in his 60s was found on rocks nearby and taken to hospital with "a number of injuries", Devon and Cornwall Police said at the time of the incident.

    A dog that was with them was taken to kennels.

    Police in York have issued CCTV images after a man was left with a fractured skull and the woman he was with suffered a black eye and cuts in an attack in the city.

    Two axe-wielding masked men entered a Leeds hotel and stole money as a wedding took place at the weekend, police say.

    It happened at the Britannia Hotel on Leeds Road in Bramhope at about 22:00 last night.

    Staff were threatened and money was stolen from a safe and till before the offenders left the scene in a vehicle.

    Nobody was injured during the theft, according to police.

    Two men, aged 27 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and are in police custody.

    Anyone who may have witnessed the robbery is being asked to get in touch as they could hold vital information, police say.
