    The 20-month old girl was taken to Malton Fire Station yesterday evening after she "pulled it over her head and was unable to remove it", North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said .

    Firefighters cut the toilet seat off using clothing shears.

  2. CCTV released after shop worker injured by robberpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 30 August 2019

    Police investigating two robberies in Doncaster have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incidents.

    The first happened at 20:45 on 12 August when a man entered Costa at Lakeside Village.

    Claiming to have a weapon the man threatened staff and demanded money was handed over.

    Police say he left shortly after with a quantity of cash.

    The following morning at about 06:35 officers believe the same man went into McDonalds on St Sepulchre Gate and grabbed money from the till.

    The cashier chased the suspect, who elbowed her in the face.

    Anyone who recognises the man in the images is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.

    Firefighters tackling a blaze at a farm near Doncaster say they expect to remain at the scene for the majority of the day.

    Fire crews were called to the premises on Newington Road, in Austerfield, near Doncaster, at about 16:05 on Thursday where a number of sheds had caught light.

    A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said a number of horses at the site had to be lead to safety but are "safe and well".

    He said Newington Road is expected to remain closed until about midday.

  7. York and Bradford museum staff strike for 'real' wagepublished at 10:18 British Summer Time 30 August 2019

    A 24-hour strike is underway at two of Yorkshire's major tourist attractions.

    Members of the Prospect Union working at the National Railway Museum, in York, and at the Science and Media Museum, in Bradford, are taking action in a row over pay.

    The dispute also involves workers at the Science Museum in London, the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, Blythe House in London, and the National Collections Centre in Wroughton, Wiltshire.

    Union members say they're campaigning for a "real" living wage.

    The Science Museum Group, which runs the museums, says it "firmly" expects both of them to be open and its priority is to ensure people enjoy their day.

    Cannabis plants worth an estimated £40,000 have been seized in raids on two addresses in East Yorkshire.

    Humberside Police say a 43-year-old man was questioned at a property on Hamilton Walk in Beverley where 16 plants were found. The man was arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis.

    Information gathered at that address led police to a house in Atwick where a further 74 plants were discovered.

    Police say the property had been converted "for the sole use of producing the drug."

    Det Sgt Matt Grantham said: “Cannabis might be seen as a ‘low level’ drug by some, but it’s important to look at the bigger picture and at the associated crimes which can go hand-in-hand with drug production, dealing, and drug use."

    Fire crews are tackling a large blaze at a farm building near Doncaster.

    About 20 firefighters are battling the blaze which broke out near Austerfield yesterday evening.

    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say a number of scrap cars and a farm building are on fire.

    People nearby are being urged to keep windows and doors closed.

    The westbound A64 near Tadcaster has been closed after a lorry crashed through the central reservation and overturned.

    The incident happened at about 04:30 this morning between Tadcaster Bar and Headley Bar.

    Highways England say the westbound carriageway is not expected to reopen before 13:00.

    One lane is also closed on the eastbound carriageway.

    A diversion has been put in place via the A659 through Tadcaster.

    A man has been charged with the murder of a woman who was found seriously injured at a house.

    Rebecca Simpson, 30, died in hospital on Monday after being found in Smawthorne Grove, Castleford.

    She was treated at Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield and later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary where she died.

    Ricky Knott, 32, of Arnside Close, Castleford, has been charged and is due before Leeds Crown Court later.

    The triathlon star is the city's first Active Travel Ambassador, encouraging people of all ages to walk or bike to school or work.

    As part of the role, he will publicly support projects by the council including new cycle lanes and bus routes.

    Two 18th century sculptures, which have been locked away since the 1970s, could become part of York's museum collection.

    Young Centaur and Old Centaur are thought to have been carved by Bartolomeo Cavaceppi in Rome in 1755.

    They were bought by City of York Council in 1949 and placed in two wall arches in the city's Assembly Rooms.

    However, it was decided the location was an "inappropriate" place for the sculptures to be displayed and so they were put in storage.

    It's not been revealed how much the pair, which have been temporarily on display in the city’s art gallery, are worth.

    A meeting of senior councillors today will decide whether to add the sculptures, originally commissioned by the Marquis of Rockingham and housed at Wentworth Woodhouse, to the council's museums collection or to sell them.
