    A man in Sheffield has been reunited with photographs of his late wife after they were found among a haul of stolen goods.

    Fred Roberts' iPad, which had the pictures of his wife Debbie on, was among a number of items recovered from an allotment in Stradbrook.

    He was reunited with the photos after South Yorkshire Police posted an image of the screensaver from the stolen iPad on social media.

    Mr Roberts (pictured above right) told officers the device stored photographs of his late wife which were "irreplaceable".

    His daughter Debbie (above left) told police having the pictures returned meant "everything" to her dad.

    More than 300 people have been banned from council-run libraries and leisure centres in Leeds in the last four years.

    A total of 343 people have been barred since March 2015 for such offences including violence, threats to kill and racial abuse.

    Leeds City Council claims it works with the banned customers to ensure they are still able to access council services.

    The figures were obtained using a Freedom of Information request.

  4. Sea rescue inspired art given to lifeboat stationpublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 9 September 2019

    A painting created by an artist after he was rescued from the sea in Scarborough has been donated to the town's lifeboat station.

    Nick Tindall’s acrylic image shows the all-weather Shannon lifeboat passing the lighthouse in choppy water on its way back from a call.

    Mr Tindall said: “Three years ago, during sail training, I fell into the water - it was so cold and I felt alone and frightened.

    "It made me realise the dangers of the sea and that's why I support the RNLI - I wanted to help and decided to do the painting to raise funds”.

    The artwork was bought for £250 by Jim Martindale (pictured left) who said he thought it should remain at the lifeboat station.

    The painting is to be hung in the crew room with an explanatory plaque.

    A motorcyclist has died in hospital more than a week after a crash on an East Yorkshire road.

    It's reported that the male rider crashed with a silver car on the A1034 Market Weighton Road on Sunday 1 September.

    The 44-year-old man has since died in hospital.

    Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the initial crash.

    Police officers say they had to take a 12-year-old child home after missiles were thrown at buses and taxis in Sheffield.

    It comes after a number of reports last week of buses being diverted because of anti-social behaviour, including brick-throwing, on Blackstock Road, in Gleadless Valley.

    A section 35 order was issued by the police on Saturday, meaning officers could disperse groups of people to stop anti-social behaviour.

    Two "youths" were taken home, according to police, one of them aged 12.

    A 42-year-old man found dead in a house in Wakefield on Friday has been named by police as Jonathan Dews.

    The body of Mr Dews, from Batley, was found at a house on Brighton Street on Friday after police were called to reports of a fire.

    Two men from Wakefield and one man from Pontefract have been charged with murder.

    All three are due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' court later.

    The man, in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The force say three men have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being held in police custody

    A 15-year-old girl has gone missing from Leeds, police say.

    Aya Othman (pictured) was last seen in the Moortown area at about 16:00 yesterday.

    The teenager is described as black, about 5ft 3ins tall, with straight black hair.

    West Yorkshire Police say she was last seen wearing a black dress and carrying a pink backpack.

    Det Insp Kevin Daly said: “We are concerned for Aya’s welfare and urgently need to hear from anyone who has seen her or who has any information that could assist us in tracing her.”

    Doncaster Sheffield Airport has been voted the UK's best airport, in a survey by consumer magazine Which?.

    It's topped the poll for the third year in a row, with customers calling it a "cosy airport" with no queues that was "easy to navigate".

    The Yorkshire hub got a customer satisfaction score of 86%.

    Flying in at second place was Birmingham followed by Heathrow's Terminal 5.

    Belfast International was rated the UK's worst airport.

    Customers gave it an approval score of 42%, saying it was "shabby", "understaffed" and had a poor layout.

    Former Labour MP Angela Smith has joined the Liberal Democrats, calling them "the strongest party to stop Brexit".

    The MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge said: "We are facing a national crisis and people deserve better than the choice of the old two parties."

    Ms Smith is the third MP to join the Lib Dems in a week, after Luciana Berger and Philip Lee defected.

    She quit Labour in February to form the Change UK party with six other MPs.

    Her decision brings the total number of Lib Dem MPs to 17, with Mr Lee dramatically crossing the floor from the Conservatives on 3 September.

    Ms Smith's former Labour and Change UK colleague Ms Berger joined the Lib Dems days later.

    Motorists are queuing for more than three miles to get into Sheffield city centre as climate protesters block a main route.

    There are tailbacks as far as the Handsworth turn off on the Sheffield Parkway as Extinction Rebellion protesters block the road at Brighouses Roundabout.

    Road-widening work at the roundabout "undermines the council's declaration of a climate emergency", according to the group.

    Councillor Mark Jones said: "In the short-term, we anticipate the road widening will improve local air quality and enable us to meet the ambitious targets we have set ourselves."
