    A Leeds United fan who paints designs on junction boxes has had 14 of his murals near Elland Road destroyed.

    Andy McVeigh, known locally as Burley Banksy, said: "It's so bewildering somebody could be so nasty."

    A group styling itself Leeds Residents Against Graffiti has claimed it carried out the weekend attack in an anonymous email to the Yorkshire Evening Post, external.

    It said the group would cover "all the Leeds United slogans and badges he has painted".

    Mr McVeigh, a primary school teacher from Leeds, spends his own time and money painting broadband cabinets, electricity boxes and bollards to cheer people up.

    A body found in woodland near Helmsley, in North Yorkshire, is believed to be that of missing ultra runner and student teacher Nicholas Harper.

    Mr Harper, 50, was reported missing from his home in Pickering in February.

    His body was discovered by a member of the public close to Cowhouse Bank car park on Saturday.

    It's not thought there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

    North Yorkshire Police say Mr Harper's family has been informed.

    Three men have appeared in court charged with murder after a man was found dead at a house.

    Jonathan Dews, 42, was found at the property on Brighton Street, Wakefield, on Friday.

    Jordan Metcalfe, 24, and Nathan Redmond, 21 - both of Brighton Street - and Scott Crutchley, 24, of Westgate, Wakefield, were remanded in custody on Monday after appearing before magistrates in Leeds.

    All three will appear at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday.

    Former Yorkshire and England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott has been given a knighthood in ex-Prime Minister Theresa May's resignation honours list.

    Regarded as one of the country's greatest batsman, his international career ended in 1982 with 8,114 runs in 108 Tests.

    Boycott captained England in four Tests and led Yorkshire for seven years.

    But, the knighthood has been criticised by domestic abuse charities.

    The 78-year-old was convicted in France in 1998 of beating his then-girlfriend Margaret Moore in a French Riviera hotel. Boycott has always denied the assault.

    Julian Smith, the MP for Skipton and Ripon in North Yorkshire, is also among the 57 people on a list of mostly political figures.

    Mr Smith is being awarded a CBE for political and public service.

    Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to find in connection with a violent robbery in Hull last month.

    The incident happened on West Street, just off Ferensway, on 16 August.

    The victim was approached from behind, pushed to the floor and punched in the head, according to police.

    An unknown person then tried to steal the victim's bag.

    The man pictured above could help with the investigation, police say.

    A railway route through the North York Moors is now offering journeys specially for people with dementia.

    The "Forget-Me-Not Dementia Train" runs along a 17-mile route from Whitby to Middlesbrough.

    Armed police helped arrest two men and a woman for public order offences and possession of an offensive weapon on Batemoor Road.

    The former Lincoln City boss is joined by his brother and assistant manager Nicky Cowley.

    “Our research, due diligence and work resulted in a shortlist of four candidates, and Danny Cowley was number one", Huddersfield Town chairman Phil Hodgkinson said.

    The pair initially turned down the job but were persuaded to join the club, Mr Hodgkinson said.

    “Our persistence paid off and when we spoke, there was an obvious chemistry. I’m delighted that they are joining us", he added.

    A woman who died in a crash on the M62 last week has been named as 51-year-old Karen McDonagh from East Yorkshire.

    It follows a crash between a lorry, a vehicle transporter and two cars at about 10:40 on Thursday on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway near Huddersfield.

    Ms McDonagh, from Goole, was a driver of one of the cars.

    A 47-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, has been released under investigation.

    Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage to come forward.

    Ieuan Jones was visiting family in Walton upon Trent, in south Derbyshire, when he was last seen at about 21:00 yesterday.

    He is white, slim, 5ft 9ins tall and has short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a dark blue striped t-shirt, dark blue jogging bottoms and blue Nike trainers.

    People in Sheffield are being asked by Derbyshire Constabulary to share the appeal as he has friends in the city.

    Five Lane Ends roundabout and the roads leading to it have been closed following the one-vehicle crash.

    Emergency services were called at about 14:15 to reports of a serious incident.

    A man has been taken to hospital, police confirmed.

    The area is likely to be closed for some time and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

    A former police officer who had a sexual relationship with a domestic violence victim while investigating her case has been give an suspended prison sentence.

    Ben Robinson, 39, pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct in a public office at Preston Crown Court on Friday.

    The court heard Robinson began a relationship with the woman after meeting her while working as a PC for West Yorkshire Police in Kirklees.

    A spokesperson for the force said his actions had "jeopardised the integrity of his role in the investigation and risked undermining the justice of the case".

    Robinson was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

    He was also ordered to pay £1,200 in costs and carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

    Robinson resigned from West Yorkshire Police following his arrest in October 2017.

    A motorcyclist and his passenger are critically ill in hospital after crashing in North Yorkshire, say police.

    It happened on Saturday afternoon on the A61 near Melmerby in the Ripon area.

    The bike was being ridden by a man in his 50s with a female passenger who's believed to be in her 40s.

    Police don't believe any other vehicles were involved and are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
