    Students at the University of Huddersfield have called for Prince Andrew to resign as chancellor.

    Last night the Students Union passed a motion to lobby the prince to step down.

    It follows Prince Andrew's appearance on BBC Newsnight in what critics called a "car-crash" interview.

    In the interview, the Queen's third child said he still did not regret his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein - who took his own life in August while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges in the US.

    The university itself said Prince Andrew's "enthusiasm for innovation and entrepreneurship" was a "natural fit" with its work.

    A convicted paedophile is being hunted by police after a warrant was issued for his arrest just hours after he was released from prison.

    Valerijs Gordijs, 46, was released from HMP Hull on Monday where he was serving a sentence for sexual offences against children.

    Humberside Police says it's carried out various inquiries since his release and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

    People are warned not to approach him but to call police if they see him.

    A pedestrian has been "seriously injured" after being hit by a car in Ripon.

    The incident happened on Clotherholme Road at about 20:30 on Sunday when a 20-year-old man was hit by a red Citroen travelling out of the city, police say.

    He was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

    Officers are asking anyone who might have witnessed the incident to get in touch.

    A BBC TV show has sparked a tourism boom in West Yorkshire.

    Gentleman Jack, starring Suranne Jones, telling the story of Anne Lister, often called the "first modern lesbian", was watched by almost six million people each week earlier this year.

    As a result, some people have travelled from as far afield as Australia to see her former stomping ground of Shibden Hall in Halifax, according to Calderdale Council.

    Her historic family home still stands today and has had to extend its opening hours to meet a huge increase in demand.

    In August last year, 2,579 people visited the 15th Century building, but in the same month this year there were 14,419 visits, according to Calderdale Council.

    Zohrah Zancudi, from Calderdale Council, said Gentleman Jack was having a “phenomenal” impact on the area, placing it “firmly on the global stage”.

    Police are appealing for information after a house in Rotherham was set alight while people slept inside.

    Residents woke up when they heard a loud bang at the house in Arcubus Avenue, Swallownest, just after midnight on the morning of 31 October.

    They found the house was full of smoke and the fire spread quickly causing substantial damage.

    All the occupants managed to get out of the house unharmed.

    Barnsley, who are bottom of the Championship, sacked Daniel Stendel as boss last month.

    They have since drawn three games and lost twice under caretaker manager Adam Murray.

    Stendel led the club to promotion from League One last season in what was his first campaign in charge.

    The driver of the car was uninjured.

    Humberside Police said the victim gave money to a group of men who claimed they would invest it, but who instead disappeared with the cash.

    Following the incident in St Stephen’s shopping centre in September, police have released two images of a man they want to speak to.

    One of the suspects is described as black, quite short, with a short beard. He spoke with what’s thought to be a South African accent.

    Another man was also black, short, of large build and clean shaven. He also spoke with a South African accent.
