  2. Arsenal beat battling Leeds to progress in FA Cuppublished at 08:15 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2020

    BBC Sport

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta "shouted a lot" at half-time to inspire an improved performance that helped the Gunners beat Leeds United and progress to the FA Cup fourth round.

Leeds dominated before the break, with Patrick Bamford hitting the bar with one of United's 15 first-half efforts.

Arsenal were excellent in the second half and Reiss Nelson scrambled home to secure a second consecutive win.

The Gunners will visit Bournemouth in the next round later this month.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa said: "What we needed to do in the match is repeat what we did in the first half.

"The first half was very, very positive for us. In the second half the control of the match changed a lot.

"In the first half we pressed the opponents' defence more and were able to attack fast. We couldn't do that in the second half."

  3. Halifax's tourist attraction records £900k lossespublished at 08:00 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2020

A renovated 18th Century cloth trading hall has recorded losses of almost £900,000, its second deficit in two years of operation.

    Piece Hall

Halifax's Piece Hall Trust recorded a £897,000 deficit during 2018-19, its accounts show.

    A £22m restoration began in 2014 before the building re-opened in 2017.

The trust said the losses at the Grade I-listed building, which has had more than five million visitors in under three years, were expected.

The deficit, shown in the annual accounts for the year ending March 31, 2019, is in line with the budget, the trust added.

Roger Marsh, chairman of the trust, said: "Much has been made about the trust's losses, but these initial losses were planned for.

The building was built in 1779 as a trading centre for handloom weavers selling "pieces" of locally-made cloth.

The original 315 units in the arcades (once used for storing and trading the cloth) now contain new shops, cafes and offices.

A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) could be enforced by Hambleton District Council which will ban anyone parking in the restricted area between 07:00 and 19:00.

Residents reported truckers had "plagued" the site, after they allegedly left human waste, litter, and kept their engines running.

Lorry drivers claim there is a lack of parking and an order will push them to wait in other areas.

The council says there is a nearby designated space for hauliers.

If approved, the ban will be enforced on 6 March and will see offenders handed a £100 fine or prosecution.
