Det Supt Mark Swift, said: "I would like to thank the National Crime Agency in Pakistan and partners who have made this arrest possible.

“This is a major development in this long running investigation and their assistance in this matter cannot be understated.

“We are continuing to liaise with partners in Pakistan to process Khan’s extradition with the intention of returning him to the UK to face court proceedings.”

If approved, the scheme would see everyone, whether unemployed or working, paid a small amount by the government each week or month.

The idea is due to be raised at a council meeting tomorrow by the Liberal Democrats.

Councillor Paul Drake-Davies, who's behind the plan, says: "Whoever you are, you'd get a monthly stipend from the government. I guess if you start earning a lot more money you'd end up paying it back through a higher tax bracket.

"But if the worst happened you'd have that security, a safety net to rebuild your life. People have talked from a couple of hundred pounds a month to £1,000.

"It's not been set out how this would be rolled out yet. All we're trying to do is get round the idea this would be a good thing for Hull to be involved in, along with other cities like Leeds and Sheffield."

The plans include the £150m construction of a three-storey, 34,000 sq m terminal, based on the airport’s current boundary, to replace the existing building.

Hywel Rees, chief executive of Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “This proposal is not about growing beyond our predicted capacity. It's about meeting the same demand in a more efficient way, with a smaller environmental footprint.

"It's about addressing challenges passengers face far too frequently and that cannot be overcome within our current building."

The airport says if the plans are approved, the completion of the terminal would mean it would meet its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2023.

Brook, 33, will face the American after a 14-month spell out of the ring on 8 February.

He has endured a testing period since 2016, having broken both eye sockets and given up his world welterweight title.

He said: "This last chapter of my career, I'm giving it my all. If I get beaten I can walk away with my head high, knowing I have given everything."

He told the 5 Live Boxing with Costello & Bunce podcast: "If I get beaten by DeLuca, I will announce my retirement in that ring. If I can't beat him, what am I doing?"

He now feels that if he were to retire - even as a former world champion - he would not feel fulfilled with his achievements.

BBC Sport boxing correspondent Mike Costello says the admission is "staggering".

Brook has said he was "a mess" in the aftermath of losing his IBF world welterweight title to Errol Spence Jr at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane in 2017, and resorted to "drinking too much" because he felt down.

He turned to counsellors and said he "poured my heart out to them".

The Wildlife Trust said the high-speed rail line linking London and northern England could wipe out rare species.

The organisation says if the project, which is currently on hold, goes ahead a "greener" approach will be needed.

Nikki Williams, the Wildlife Trusts' director of campaigns and policy, said: "HS2 will destroy precious carbon-capturing habitats if it's allowed to continue in its current form.

"It will damage the very ecosystems that provide a natural solution to the climate emergency."

HS2 Ltd said its railway will respect the environment through the creation of a "green corridor" along the route.

The government commissioned a review into HS2 in August and is set to decide in the coming weeks whether to proceed.
