    Hull Kingston Rovers forward Mose Masoe says he has been "truly humbled" by the support he had been shown after he suffered a serious spinal injury.

    Samoa international Masoe, 30, was hurt in a friendly match against Wakefield on 12 January and had to have emergency surgery.

    In a post shared online, external he said: "I can't begin to express my love and gratitude to everyone that has been helping me and my family at such a hard time, we are truly surrounded by amazing people/family.

    "It's going to be a long road ahead for me and my little family but it makes it easier for us knowing that we are so blessed with all of your support and well wishes.

    "The way I'm going to attack this is with a positive attitude and a big smile on my face. Business as usual."

    A fundraising appeal set up to help Masoe and his family has so far received more than £30,000.

    Mateusz Lugowski was last seen in the Chantry Bridge area of the town last night.

    He was wearing a blue and black hoodie, grey tracksuit bottoms and blue trainers.

    The force said both his family and officers are concerned for his welfare.

    A vets charity is warning drivers to check under their cars and bonnets before switching on their engines after a cat's leg had to be amputated in Bradford when it was trapped in a fan belt.

    Owner Shameena Baker had to call a mechanic to help after Saffy the cat's leg got caught as she hid in the engine of a neighbour's car which was then switched on.

    Saffy was left in "desperate pain" after she was released and vets had "no choice" but to amputate the unfortunate feline's leg, according to the PDSA.

    Despite this, vets say Saffy had a "very lucky escape" and is now expected to make a good recovery.

    PDSA vet Rachel Bishop said: "Saffy's very lucky to be alive. Sadly, it's not unusual for us to hear about this type of accident happening over the colder months.

    "Cats often seek out warm places and a recently driven car engine can seem like a safe and cosy place for a snooze."

    Drivers are now being urged to check under their cars and wheel arches before turning engines on, especially if the car's been used within the last few hours.

    A police officer and 15 other men from Halifax have appeared in court charged with historical sex offences against children aged between 13 and 16.

    West Yorkshire PC Amjad Ditta, 35, also known as Amjad Hussain, appeared at Bradford Magistrates' Court to face a charge of sexual touching.

    He and 15 others are charged with offences against three girls in the Halifax area between 2006 and 2009.

    All were given bail and a provisional trial date was set for 14 September.

    A North Yorkshire Conservative peer has said he knew nothing about the Prime Minister's idea to relocate the House of Lords and believes the suggestion is "a bit ridiculous".

    The Sunday Times claimed York and Birmingham have emerged as contenders to host the chamber.

    Speaking to BBC Radio York, Lord Kirkhope of Harrogate (pictured) said: "Maybe we could have parliamentary sessions in the North, but why just the House of Lords anyway? It seems to me a bit ridiculous."

    Disused land near York railway station has been identified as a possible site to host the chamber, which houses 795 peers.

    The House of Lords is already due to temporarily relocate out of the Palace of Westminster as part of refurbishment plans due to begin in around 2025.

    The director of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership has called for a commitment to HS2, following on from the Financial Times' publication, external of a government-commissioned review into the rail link.

    Henri Murison said: "The North’s civic and business leaders have argued tirelessly that major infrastructure investment is so badly needed to provide the capacity so urgently needed on our rail network as well as delivering the transformational economic growth the Northern Powerhouse needs to compete on the global stage.

    "By better integrating the last phase with Northern Powerhouse Rail we will ensure that we get the maximum possible benefits, with the so called Y network to Leeds, Manchester and beyond on an upgraded conventional network the key economic driver because of increased capacity, not principally speed.

    "This is a seminal moment in the modern history of the UK. Any failure to seize this opportunity would be a betrayal of the North, and the promise of a Northern Powerhouse. Time to level up the country and close the North-South divide."

    Cars without insurance have been seized and a person has been arrested as part of a police crackdown in South Yorkshire.

    The car pictured above was stopped on Fitzwilliam Road, Rotherham, and found to have no insurance.

    Elsewhere, a person was stopped and found to have suspected Class A drugs and was arrested, police said.

    It's been part of Operation Duxford - a force-wide crackdown on speeding drivers.

    Supt Paul McCurry from South Yorkshire Police told me: "South Yorkshire Roads Policing Unit are out there every day - targeting roads, denying criminals the use of our roads and promoting road safety.

    "All we've done today is work alongside our neighbourhood policing teams to increase our presence and, quite frankly, I'm really pleased with the results so far."

    Two teenagers charged with murdering a man outside a factory in Huddersfield have appeared in court.

    Kiyran Earnshaw, 18, of Field Lane, Batley, and a 15-year-old who cannot be named, are accused of killing Robert Wilson, 53, from Birstall.

    Mr Wilson was stabbed to death outside the Thornton and Ross pharmaceutical plant where he worked on Thursday.

    Both teenagers appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court where they were remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday.

    Mr Earnshaw is also charged with possession of a bladed article and maliciously wounding a 39-year-old man who suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the same attack.

    The 15-year-old also faces a charge of possession of a bladed article.

    A 62-year-old man from Sheffield has died after being hit by a vehicle on the M1 southbound early this morning.

    The collision happened at about 05:30 between Junction 36 Tankersley and J35A Stocksbridge.

    The man, a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    His family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers, police say.

    The M1 was closed for about eight hours following the collision, sparking major delays.

    Anyone who saw the collision, or who has dash-cam footage from around the time of the collision, is being asked to contact police.

    One of Britain's oldest department stores, which has a branch in a West Yorkshire town, has collapsed into administration, putting more than 1,000 jobs at risk.

    Beales has appointed KPMG as administrators after failing to secure a sale.

    The department store began trading in Bournemouth in 1881 and has 22 shops, including one in Keighley.

    It is understood that there will be no immediate closures and Beales stores will continue to trade.

    In the year to March 2019, Beale Ltd reported a loss of £3.1m, up from £1.3m for the year earlier as costs swelled and sales dipped.

    Beales's chief executive Tony Brown led a management buyout of the firm in 2018.

    I’m with South Yorkshire Police officers today as they patrol the motorway network as part of Operation Duxford which, among other things, is targeting speeding drivers.

    As part of the crackdown, a driver has been given a fine after police clocked her driving at 65mph through roadworks.

    The stop was on the M180 through a section of 50mph roadworks.

    The driver was the first speeding stop carried out by PC Sophie Drinkall and PC Rob Parker this morning.

    PC Parker said: “I work on the motorway with traffic whizzing past us. It’s a dangerous place to be. This person was seen doing 65mph.

    “She’s whizzing past them [the workers] and it’s dangerous for them - and dangerous for her, too.

    “She’s been given a traffic offence report for speeding," he added.

    Highways England says it is working to re-open one lane of the M1 southbound following an earlier accident.

    Have you seen Christopher Goodchild? Police say they're concerned for his welfare after he set off on a journey from West Yorkshire but didn't arrive at his final destination in Nottingham.

    Mr Goodchild, 40, was seen at Bradford Interchange on 16 January and it's believed he travelled by train to Nottingham where he was caught on CCTV in the city centre that evening.

    He's described as white, tall, with blonde wavy hair and a beard. He was wearing glasses, a grey top, a checked shirt and green chinos.

    Anyone with information about Mr Goodchild's whereabouts is being asked to contact West Yorkshire Police.

    Severe delays are continuing to affect motorists on the M1 in South Yorkshire this morning following an earlier accident.

    All vehicles are being diverted off the M1 southbound at Junction 36, as shown in the picture above, and re-routed via the A61 and A616.
