Court rejects Ex-Blades owner Kevin McCabe's appeal bidpublished at 10:31 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2020
Former Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe's application to appeal against a High Court ruling ordering him to sell his 50% stake in the club has been rejected, the club has said.
Mr McCabe (above left) was told to sell his shares in the Premier League side after losing a court battle with co-owner Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (above right).
In a bid to overturn the decision, Mr McCabe launched an appeal. However, earlier today the club said that appeal had been turned down.
In a statement, external, the club said the Court of Appeal considered there would be "no good grounds for allowing an appeal".
The club said: "The Board is delighted any lingering uncertainty about the club's future ownership is at an end and that everyone at Sheffield United can now fully focus on what has, to date, been a fantastic first season back in the Premier League."
It added that an "agreement in principle" had been reached between the Prince and Mr McCabe's Scarborough Group over the transfer of the freehold of the club's Bramall Lane stadium and a number of other properties.
It said it hoped the transfer would be completed "within a matter of months".
