    Comedian Sir Michael Palin has described the death of his Monty Python co-star Terry Jones as "like losing a limb".

    Terry Jones died at the age of 77, four years after being diagnosed with dementia.

    Sheffield-born Palin met Jones in 1962 at university in Oxford, after which he said they became "inseparable for many, many years".

    "It's sort of like losing a limb", Palin told the BBC.

    "Even over the past few years, we were still very close friends."

    "I valued Terry's opinion more than any other," he said.

    "I will miss putting my arm around him and having a drink. I shall miss our sessions putting the world to rights.

    "He was a terrific companion, and a terrific person to be with."

    A nine-year-old Sheffield Wednesday superfan has smashed his fundraising target for a cancer charity weeks ahead of taking part in an epic triathlon.

    Shay O’Grady, from Ecclesfield, who's raising money as his cousin Evie-Mae is supported by the Bluebell Wood charity, has so far more than doubled his initial target of raising £1,000.

    He said: "I'm walking from Sheffield Wednesday to Barnsley, and then after the match I'm riding back. It's going to take about two and a half hours to get there."

    He's also swimming 6,000m - the distance between Hillsborough and Bramall Lane - home of the two Sheffield football teams.

    "I just want to help all her friends, the hospice and Evie-Mae to get better - because they're not living the same life as us," he added.

    A man suffered a broken eye socket during a robbery in a Leeds park last week, police say.

    The 37-year-old was attacked in Cross Flatts Park, on Dewsbury Road, in the early hours of 14 January.

    He was punched in the face and his Amazon Fire tablet computer was stolen.

    Anyone with any information about the incident is being asked to contact West Yorkshire Police.

    Barnsley have confirmed that the Football Association is investigating a "potential anti-doping violation" by defender Bambo Diaby.

    Several media outlets reported on Tuesday that the 22-year-old failed a drugs test in November.

    A club statement said Diaby was "subject to a playing suspension whilst this matter is under investigation".

    The statement added: "The player and club are cooperating and responding directly with the FA."

    Diaby joined Barnsley from Belgian club KSC Lokeren for an undisclosed fee last summer, after agreeing a four-year contract.

    An indoor crazy golf course in Leeds featuring a red light district-themed hole has been granted an alcohol licence, despite objections the venue could corrupt young churchgoers.

    Ghetto Golf's application for the venue in Walter Street met with the disapproval of the nearby Redeemed Christian Church of God (pictured).

    The congregation was unhappy about the risque props seen at other Ghetto Golf venues, with objectors fearing it would lead to crime and disorder.

    Richard Taylor, representing Ghetto Golf, said there was "tongue-in-cheek humour" at its venues, describing it as "Benny Hill for the 2020s", but rejected the church's claims.

    Councillors granted the licence to serve alcohol, from 10:00 until 01:00.

    A lorry driver has been found guilty of causing the death of another motorist when he stopped his vehicle after missing a turn-off.

    John Robinson, 24, (pictured below) struck the back of Marcel Balan's HGV on the A19 at Washington shortly before midnight on 12 March last year.

    At Newcastle Crown Court, Balan, 57, of Cope Street, Barnsley, was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.

    He claimed he had slowed his vehicle because he believed his load was loose.

    Balan was remanded into custody for sentencing on 7 February.

    Staff at a cafe in the Dearne Valley say lots of people have supported a scheme which sees money set aside for hot drinks and food for people who might not be able to afford it.

    Katie's Cafe in Wath upon Dearne launched the project before Christmas, which gives customers the choice to put money aside for food and drink when they buy items.

    Since then, money which would pay for dozens of cups of tea has been donated to go to people who might find paying for hot drinks and food difficult.

    Cafe staff ask customers to direct people to them if they're hungry or need a drink.

    Owner Katie Hopkins said: "My customers are so generous and so far we've raised £143.40.

    "We've not had anyone take us up on the offer so far, but we're trying to get the word out.

    "Whatever we haven't used will be used to buy food and then we'll give that to a homeless charity at Christmas."

    A swan which was rescued from a sewage treatment works in Sheffield last month has been released.

    The animal was pulled to safety in December by the RSPCA with help from firefighters (pictured).

    The "long and dirty" job seems to have been worth it, though, after the swan was rehabilitated and released on Monday.

    A man who died after being found outside a block of flats in Sheffield has been named by police.

    David Hawley, aged 54, was found by the ambulance service outside Brimmesfield Close at about 01:45 yesterday morning.

    He died shortly after as a result of a head injury, police said.

    A 39-year-old man who was assisting officers with inquiries has been released under investigation.

    Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to get in touch with South Yorkshire Police.

    But did you know that 93 years ago today the first ever Football League game was broadcast on the radio

    The match - a 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Sheffield United, at Highbury - was broadcast from a small wooden hut by the side of the pitch.

    The producer at the time, Lance Sieveking, devised a plan of the pitch divided into eight numbered squares, which was published in the Radio Times.

    The idea was that the listener at home could follow the play from their armchair using the grid. Many believe this is the origin of the phrase "Back to Square One".

    Kiyran Earnshaw, 18, of Field Lane, Batley, and a 15-year-old who cannot be named are accused of killing Robert Wilson, 53, from Birstall.

    Mr Wilson was stabbed to death outside the Thornton and Ross pharmaceutical plant in Linthwaite (pictured) where he worked on 16 January.

    Both teenagers have been remanded into custody ahead of a trial scheduled for 13 July.

    A man has died after getting trapped while carrying out maintenance on a military vehicle at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, it's been confirmed.

    The incident, involving a 58-year-old contractor from Richmond, happened at Piave Lines Barracks at about 09:50 on Saturday, police say.

    The man was given CPR but died at the scene.

    Both the Health and Safety Executive and North Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident.

    The man's next of kin have been informed and are receiving support, police add.
