    Rotherham College is set to close its Dinnington campus putting jobs at risk as part of planned cuts, according to its parent company.

    RNN Group says it plans to close the campus this summer and move courses and some staff to other sites.

    It added that about 40 full time jobs would be cut.

    A consultation was launched in October to discuss the future of the site.

    The proposal aims to "put the organisation on a strong financial footing" with the site being sold off, according to RNN.

    Jason Austin, chief executive officer and principal, RNN Group, said: “We understand the affection for Dinnington Campus and regret we are putting jobs at risk.

    "However, further savings need to be made to ensure RNN Group is on a secure and sustainable footing and well-positioned to provide high quality education and technical training to the students, communities and businesses it serves.”

    Grassland off Riggs High Road in Stannington will become a green-friendly option, with bio-degradable coffins and tree memorials.

    Councillor Peter Price said: “This is something very different. When people choose this, it’s to keep as near to nature as possible without headstones and the things associated with cemeteries. We should encourage that."

    Sheffield City Council has said it is not responsible for a series of strange posters which have appeared around the city telling people how to check if they are dreaming.

    The posters have been spotted near to Sheffield Hallam Students Union and have been seen by thousands of people since being posted on the Reddit website.

    Under the heading "Would you know if you were dreaming right now?", they give readers a three-step guide to checking whether they are dreaming or not and come bearing a Sheffield City Council logo.

    The Reddit post prompted one person to say "We're always living the dream in Sheffield", while another suggested they could be part of an art installation.

    However, Sheffield City Council said: "We didn't produce this, so please don’t lose any sleep over it.

    "If you saw this street art you're not dreaming, but check your watch if you're unsure."

    A woman in her 70s has died after being hit by a lorry at an industrial premises in York.

    The female pedestrian was hit by an HGV at a site in Outgang Lane, in the Osbaldwick area of the city, at about 14:00 yesterday.

    North Yorkshire Police said she died at the scene.

    A force spokesperson said the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

    A man has been arrested following an incident on the M1 earlier this morning, causing severe disruption near Wakefield.

    The man was arrested when West Yorkshire Police stopped a vehicle on the northbound carriageway between J39 and J40 after receiving reports it had been stolen from the Chapelthorpe area of Wakefield.

    Two lanes of the M1 were closed while police stopped and recovered the vehicle earlier this morning.

    Police said a 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

    All lanes have now been reopened.

    The Environment Agency has issued a plea for volunteers to become part of a scheme to plant 20,000 trees on a Halifax moor.

    The Treesponsibility project says it has been given a site on Ovenden Moor to build the green development.

    The trees are aimed at reducing the risk of flooding, the group says.

    The new boss of Northern Trains says it could take up to two years to solve the problems that led to major disruption for passengers across the region.

    Transport Minster Grant Shapps announced yesterday that Arriva, which ran train operator Northern, is to have its franchise taken away from them by the government.

    As a result, from 1 March Northern services will transfer from Arriva Rail North to Northern Trains Limited, a newly formed subsidiary of the Department for Transport's operator of last resort.

    Robin Gisby, the chairman of Northern Trains, said: "It's going to be tough.There's an awful lot to sort out here. It's going to take a year or two to really restore it.

    "[But] we will hit this very hard from 1 March, and first and foremost we will do all we can to improve performance for passengers."

    A British woman due to be flown out of Wuhan amid the coronavirus outbreak was told to leave behind her three-year-old son because he has a Chinese passport.

    Up to 200 UK citizens will be flown out of China on Thursday and put into quarantine for two weeks in the UK.

    Natalie Francis, originally from York, said: "I literally had no words when I got the call."

    The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said its priority was to keep British nationals and their families together but a number of UK citizens in China said local authorities had prevented members of their families from leaving because they held Chinese passports.

    "All three of us are in Wuhan at the moment. Physically we are fine, but the stress of being locked up for so long... the emotional health is starting to suffer a little bit," she said, "especially after this news."

    "It's rare you ever feel genuinely helpless, where there is nothing you can do, nothing you can say. It was really upsetting."

    A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesperson said: "The safety of British nationals is our top priority and we have been in close contact with British nationals and their family members who might need help.

    "Our priority is to keep British nationals and their family members together and [we] have urgently raised this with the Chinese authorities."

    Hundreds of inmates are doubled up in single-occupancy cells at a "badly overcrowded" prison "with worrying levels of violence", inspectors found.

    Chief Inspector of Prisons Peter Clarke said he was also concerned by the "increased levels of self-harm" and the number of deaths at HMP Doncaster.

    Five inmates took their own lives at the prison within one year.

    The privately run category B jail and young offender institution holds about 1,100 male criminals.

    The report concluded that HMP Doncaster was "badly overcrowded with worrying levels of violence and a ready availability of drugs".

    Phil Copple, director general of prisons said that since the inspection a new safety management team had been put in place and said the government had committed up to £2.5bn in creating 10,000 extra prison places.

    He added: "While there is much work to be done at HMP Doncaster, we are pleased inspectors have the confidence in Serco and the staff to deliver improvements."

    A cyclist has been killed in a hit-and-run crash in Hull.

    The cyclist was hit by a blue coloured Audi on National Avenue at about 21:00, but the driver failed to stop at the scene.

    Humberside Police said the man died in hospital a couple of hours later.

    Police are "urgently appealing" for witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to contact them.
