    A polar bear has been moved to South Yorkshire from captivity in France to stop him harming his mate's cubs.

    Rasputin was brought to Yorkshire Wildlife Park, near Doncaster, from Antibes in the south of France.

    The journey was planned for winter time so he would experience more comfortable temperatures.

    Bruce Walton, who was Rasputin's keeper in France, said: "He is a lovely bear and I can see he will be very happy here and have a ball."

    Rasputin was born in Moscow Zoo in November 2008 and has lived in Antibes since in 2010.

    His mate Flocke recently had cubs and he needs to be kept away for their safety.

    Adult polar bears have been known to kill and eat cubs.

    Rasputin arrived in Yorkshire on 29 January, but has been kept away from the public while he explores his new environment.

    Plans to revamp one of the entrances to Leeds Railway Station have been unveiled.

    Planned improvements include new stairs from the station down to Bishopgate Street and pedestrianising part of New Station Street.

    No decision has been made as yet as the plans are currently at pre-application stage and a full planning application has not been submitted.

    What are described as "enhanced pedestrian and cycle-friendly routes" through Neville Street, Dark Neville Street and Victoria Road, as well as a new 700-capacity cycle hub, are also among possible changes.

    Leeds City Council claims the station is the busiest in the north of England and passenger numbers there are expected to increase by 80% over the next two decades.

    A pedestrian has died following a crash on the A64 near York this morning, police have confirmed.

    The man, in his 40s, was killed when he was hit by a car on the westbound carriageway near the Fulford junction at about 05:00.

    A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and driving while unfit through drugs and is being held in police custody, according to the North Yorkshire force.

    The road remains closed westbound between the A19 junction and the A1036 as investigations continue.

    However, the eastbound carriageway has reopened, Highways England says.

    Traffic is flowing, but there is still congestion, the agency adds.

    It happened at about 09:10 this morning on the A57 Mosborough Parkway, with about five vehicles being involved.

    The crash, between Coisley Hill roundabout and the Sheffield Parkway, is causing a number of tailbacks in the area.

    None of the injuries are thought to be serious at the moment, South Yorkshire Police said.

    Drivers on the A64, or planning to use the A64, near York are being warned to expect big delays for some time to come.

    The road is currently closed in both directions between the A19 Fulford and the A1036 due to an accident in the early hours and there is now about 2.5 miles of congestion in the area.

    It looks like it'll be some hours before things are getting back to normal, so drivers are being asked to think about using alternative routes:

    The fire service has confirmed the roof of the building on Manor Road in Kiveton contains asbestos however the Environment Agency says it poses no airborne risk to local residents.

    Seven crews are now tackling the blaze at the warehouse which is said to be full of recyclable waste and tyres.

    The fire service is warning people in the area to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke.

    Drivers are being warned to expect delays of at least 15 minutes on the A64, which is closed in both directions following an earlier accident.

    Highways England says it's "working hard to restore normal conditions as soon as possible" between the A1036 at Askham Bar and the A19 at Fulford.

    It's not yet clear if anyone was injured in the accident, which is described by police as "serious".

    The accident happened at about 05:30 this morning. At the moment, it's unclear if anyone's been hurt.

    Highways England has warned delays are expected throughout the morning.

    Drivers approaching the closure are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and have been warned they may have to re-route their journey.

    A "little book" written by Charlotte Bronte in 1830 when she was 14 has gone on show at the family's former home.

    The miniature work, called the Young Men's Magazine, has gone on show at the Parsonage Museum in Haworth.

    It was bought for £512,970 at auction after a fundraising campaign by the Bronte Society, which runs the museum.

    The work is one of six "little books" written by her.

    The little book, dated 19 August 1830 and which is about the size of a matchbox, is packed with spoof stories and advertisements in tiny handwriting.

    The museum's principal curator Ann Dinsdale said: "Welcoming the little book home to Haworth and seeing it in place alongside the others in the series is the highlight of my career."
