    A teenager was critically injured and another received multiple slash wounds in two "linked" stabbings in Sheffield on the same night.

    A 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest on Leverton Drive in the London Road area at about 18:45 on Tuesday.

    Two hours later, a 17-year-old boy arrived at hospital with injuries to his arms and upper body, having being attacked in nearby Cemetery Road.

    Police said the 15-year-old had undergone emergency surgery and was in a critical but stable condition.

    The other teenager remains in hospital in a stable condition.

    Det Ch Insp Jamie Henderson said: "Officers are working really hard to establish the exact circumstances and motive surrounding both of these incidents which, due to the proximity in timings and similar location, we are treating as linked."

    Hull West and Hessle Labour MP Emma Hardy has given her support to a bill due to go before Parliament later today calling for changes to the cost of school uniform.

    Mike Amesbury MP is due to present the first reading of his Education (Guidance about Costs of School Uniforms) Bill in the House of Commons later today.

    The bill calls for guidance for schools about the cost aspects of school uniform policies.

    In 2018, a Children's Society report found, external parents were spending £340 per year on school uniform costs for each secondary school child and £255 per year for each primary school child.

    Ms Hardy said: "When I was teaching, children looked perfectly smart in uniform you could buy from the supermarket or the local high street.

    "But this need suddenly to have the school logo on a blazer, on their socks, on their PE kit, on their trousers, it's just excessive. It's a completely unnecessary cost."

    Council tax will rise and local authority jobs will be cut in order to find millions in savings over the next three years, Doncaster mayor Ros Jones has said.

    Doncaster Council needs to find nearly £18m in cuts to present a balanced budget despite being handed £7m from central government for adult social care.

    The council is "still feeling the effects of austerity" a decade on, according to the mayor.

    Figures show 58 jobs will be cut during 2020-21, 19 during 2021-22 and 24 in 2022-23.

    Council tax is also expected to go up by 3.99% – half of this is ring-fenced to help pay for adult social care.

    Mayor Ros Jones said: “We are still feeling the effects of a decade of austerity and we still face more uncertainty hence our need to remain focused.

    “As always, we will protect jobs and frontline services where we can, help the vulnerable and wherever possible continue with the services that matter most to our residents."

    Hull City Academy coach Kris Blakeston has died following a short battle with cancer, the club has said.

    In a statement, external the Championship side said Mr Blakestone was one of the longest-serving members of staff at the Academy, having worked in the Club's youth set-up for almost 14 years.

    The club said: "He made a huge impact on the lives of so many through his work - both players who have gone on to enjoy careers in the game and those that have pursued other paths away from football.

    "An outstanding member of the team, his personality, charm and infectious sense of humour will be sorely missed by all at the Academy - staff, players and parents - who have been fortunate enough to work with him.

    "Everyone at the Club would like to pass on their thoughts and heartfelt condolences to Kris’ family and friends."

    Ex-Hull City striker Jarrod Bowen, who came through the club's Bishop Burton academy and recently completed a £20m-plus deal to join West Ham, said on Twitter, external: "Gutted with this news. What a man he was and a great laugh around the training ground, rest in peace mate".

    A 15-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the chest in Sheffield.

    The teenager was attacked in Leverton Drive (pictured) at about 18:45 on Tuesday, South Yorkshire Police said.

    He was then taken to hospital where he underwent surgery for his injury and is now said to be in a "stable condition".

    The force has appealed for anyone with information about the stabbing to come forward.

    One person has been taken to hospital following a crash involving a number of vehicles on the M1 earlier this morning.

    It happened at about 06:35 on the southbound carriageway between junction 32 for the M18 and junction 31 at Aston.

    South Yorkshire Police said the extent of the person's injuries was currently unknown.

    Highways England says the southbound carriageway is currently closed between Junction 33 and 31, external, with traffic currently being turned around from the scene of the collision.

    Work to decontaminate the hotel room in York where the only two confirmed coronavirus patients in the UK had been staying is due to begin today.

    A University of York student and one of their relatives tested positive for coronavirus after falling ill at Staycity Aparthotel in Paragon Street on Wednesday.

    Today, Bio Decon Group, which is based in York, will begin work at the hotel after being given the all-clear by Public Health England.

    A man who dealt drugs in South and West Yorkshire has been jailed for more than four years.

    Darren Bygraves, 49, of Stoney Croft, Hoyland, Barnsley, appeared before court charged with possession with intent to supply Class A, Class B and Class C drugs.

    He had been charged by police after trying to smuggle drugs into HMP New Hall in Wakefield, before being released on bail.

    While on bail in 2018 and 2019, Bygraves continued to deal drugs across Barnsley, twice being stopped by police.

    Wraps of crack cocaine and heroin were found on him along with a mobile phone which police said "showed evidence of [him] offering to supply drugs".

    He has been sentenced to four years and one month in prison.

    Mr Styles, who's not been seen since the early hours of this morning, is described by police as "vulnerable".

    It's thought he may be in the Hull area and could be using a blue 3 Series BMW, officers believe.

    A West Yorkshire Labour MP whose bared shoulder prompted criticism on social media has said she is not "a tart".

    The tongue-in-cheek reply from Batley and Spen Labour MP Tracy Brabin, the shadow culture secretary, came after online abuse of her appearance in Parliament on Monday.

    An initial tweet questioned if her outfit was "appropriate attire" for Parliament.

    Ms Brabin said she was surprised people "could get so emotional over a shoulder".

    The MP had been raising a point of order in the House of Commons, about journalists being asked to leave a Downing Street press briefing on the next stage of Brexit talks, when her shoulder appeared.

    Ms Brabin told the BBC the response was "sadly" routine and "another example of the every day sexism women face":

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured when the off-road bike he was riding was in collision with a car in Bradford.

    It happened at about 19:20 on Monday night on St Paul's Avenue, near the junction with Halifax Road.

    The rider, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury, police say.

    The bike, an unregistered Kawasaki off-road bike, crashed with a blue Ford Focus, West Yorkshire Police added.
