A pedestrian has died in a crash involving a HGV near Leyburn yesterday, police say.
The man, who was in his 70s, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened on Church Bank, Aysgarth at about 12:30 yesterday, North Yorkshire Police say.
The driver of the HGV, a man aged 28, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has been released under investigation.
Witnesses to the crash are asked to get in touch with police.

Following a call this morning with club bosses and the announcement that two clubs have players in precautionary self-isolation, the decision was made to cancel the rest of the season.
Steelers owner Tony Smith said: "It’s been a tough week on many levels. We have to take so many things into account, most importantly the health of our players, fans and staff.
"We looked at every option possible but as stated in the EIHL media release we had no option but to take this very disappointing decision this morning.
"We are sure many fans have so many questions relating to purchased tickets, season tickets and play off’s. Can we please ask that you all refrain from contacting either the Arena or our offices until early next week when further statements will have been issued."

Members of a gang who were found guilty of rape last week have been sentenced to 70 years in prison.
The girl was 15 when the group began to ply her with drink and drugs in order to exploit her.
Four men, all from South Yorkshire, were found guilty of raping the girl during a campaign of abuse between 2010 and 2012.
One man was found guilty of perverting the course of justice.

Two boys have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 12-year-old boy was shot in Huddersfield earlier this week.
The victim is in hospital with none life-threatening but potentially life-changing injuries, police say.
Police were called at about 19:15 on Tuesday evening to reports of an incident at Northfield Hall Community Centre, Deighton. The boy then went to hospital with gunshot injuries.
Last night, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were arrested as part of the investigation.
Three other teenagers, who were all previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, remain in custody.
The suspects are believed to have fled in a BMW, which was later found burnt out in the Huddersfield area.
Police continue to appeal for witnesses.

Work's started on the creation of more than 170 new homes in a £30m transformation of a South Yorkshire town centre.
The Westgate Riverside, Millfold Rise and Wellgate Place developments (artist impressions pictured), are part of planned changes in Rotherham.
Councillor Dominic Beck, said: “These developments will deliver new properties for local people, including 129 Council rented and shared ownership homes.
"It will totally transform three disused former industrial sites and kick-start a raft of new housing."
The council says the first homes are due to be available by Autumn next year.

A boy is in hospital with a serious head injury after being hit by a car near Penistone yesterday.
The 12-year-old was hit at about 15:10 yesterday when he got off a bus on Bower Hill opposite the junction with Manor Lane.
He crossed the road in front of the bus, police say, before being in collision with a grey VW Polo.
He suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Witnesses to the crash are asked to get in touch with police.

Lee Radford was sacked as head coach of Hull FC immediately after their heavy home defeat by Warrington.
Hull FC chief executive Adam Pearson told a live television interview and 5 Live Sports Extra that Radford had been sacked, minutes after the 38-4 loss.
Pearson had not even informed the players who were left in the dressing room.
Radford, who was appointed back in 2013, led Hull to two Challenge Cup successes in seven years at the club.

A man is due to appear in court later today charged with murdering a 23-year-old stabbed to death in Sheffield.
Jordan Marples-Douglas was found with multiple stab wounds at a property in Woodthorpe Road on Friday. He died at the scene.
Ben Jones, 25, of no fixed abode, has been charged with his murder and was remanded into custody, South Yorkshire Police said.
He is due to appear before Sheffield magistrates later.
A 21-year-old woman from the city, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released under investigation.
