Steelers had been beaten finalists on six occasions in 16 years, but they were not to be denied on this occasion.

Michael Davies (two), Marc-Olivier Vallerand and Brendan Connolly scored for Steelers with Sam Jardine, Masi Marjamaki and Joey Haddad hitting back.

The cup win came just two days after losing 7-3 to Devils in the Elite League.

Steelers head coach Aaron Fox said: "It feels awesome, after our hockey game on Friday, with us knowing we had this in two days, it's the best way to answer.

"The boys pushed back hard and I'm really proud of them. I'm really happy we were able to bring the cup home this early and hopefully we find more silverware down the road."

Fire crews were called to a farm near Bramham, Leeds, at about 14:00 on Saturday after copper from the pedometer's batteries apparently reacted with the pig's excrement and dry bedding.

The pedometers were being used on pigs to prove they were free-range. No pigs or people were hurt in the fire.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had gone to "save the bacon".
