The review was commissioned last year following concerns over driver safety and a number of deaths.

Jason Mercer, 44, died on the M1 near Sheffield, in June, after he pulled over to exchange details after a minor collision with another motorist where the hard shoulder is now an active lane.

Both men were killed when an HGV hit them near junction 34 at Meadowhall in South Yorkshire in June.

Mr Shapps told the House of Commons: "Alongside that report, I'm also launching an 18-point action plan to raise the bar on smart motorway safety.

"Overall, the evidence shows in most ways smart motorways are as safe or safer than conventional ones, but they are not in every way, and I have therefore developed these new measures in order to further improve safety."

Mr Hollinrake said he'd hoped the road dualling would be completed by 2025, now he says he'll press for it to be completed by 2027/2028.

The MP says: "It's taxpayers' money, we've got to be careful with it, we're talking £250m to £300m on this road.

"So it's a lot of money and we've got to make sure that money is spent well."

It adds: "We have also paid close attention to NHS advice and note some of the advice, such as keeping distant from ill people is hard to follow, given a conference involves strangers sitting close to each other."

Sheffield-based brewery True North Brew Co says it's been given the thumbs up to recreate Stones Bitter using a similar recipe to the original.

Launching in April, the cask ale is being brewed in the city centre.

The bitter was originally brewed at the Cannon Brewery, Neepsend with "extra minerals" to replenish those steelworkers lost whilst working, True North Brew Co said.

Head brewer at True North Brew Co, Dean Hollingworth said: "We want to do it right so we’re going all out to make sure the recipe is as close as it was back in the bitter’s glory days.

"We’ll be using a traditional cask recipe with Challenger and Goldings hops and the original Stones yeast strain, kindly given to us by Molson Coors. We’re even going as far as recreating the water profile that was used at the time."

Voters in seats in Yorkshire which went from red to blue in December’s general election were waiting to see what they had swapped lifelong Labour support for.

Devolution in Yorkshire has been a long, painful process. But now, through negotiation on both sides, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire are there.

It unlocks hundreds of millions of pounds which Yorkshire gets to spend how it likes.

The main portion of that money will be spent on transport, linking bigger cities with often forgotten towns.

Of course, this infrastructure should already have been in place - there've been calls for it for years.

Today, the first Yorkshire Chancellor in 40 years will say he "got it done".
