  6. Owl's well that ends well for 'drenched' owletpublished at 09:29 British Summer Time 26 June 2020

This "cold and wet" baby owl was rescued after being found stranded on a street in East Yorkshire:

    OwletImage source, RSPCA

The owlet was found last Friday on Rawcliffe Lane in Rawcliffe by a former RSPCA inspector who immediately called the animal charity for help.

RSPCA officer Leanne Honess-Heather said: "It was pouring with rain and blowing a gale. The poor thing was completely drenched and very cold.

"When I collected him, he looked in reasonably good condition, other than being cold and wet. We don’t know how he got there, but he was most likely blown off course during the stormy weather."

"I'm pleased this little fellow has made it through his ordeal," she added.

The owlet is now in the care of a wildlife rehabilitation centre in North Yorkshire before it is released back into the wild.

The RSPCA says its centres care for over 1,000 "orphaned" fledglings each year, but many of these birds would have been better off if they were left in the wild.

It's "really important" to ensure it's only those which really need help that are brought in, the charity adds.
