Visitors to Scarborough are being urged to support local businesses following the announcement that coronavirus lockdown restrictions will be further eased early next month.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that among other measures, pubs, restaurants, hotels and hairdressers can open from 4 July in England, when social distancing rules will be eased.
People should remain 2m apart where possible but a "one metre-plus" rule will be introduced, Mr Johnson added.
Scarborough Council leader Steve Siddons said people should not “let their guard down” but that the council was now planning how it could extend the summer season.
Scarborough and the surrounding area was now preparing for its "comeback", according to Mr Siddons.
"The borough is built on our ability to welcome people from all over the country. That is why we are the second most popular tourist destination after London," he said.
"However, we must continue to be vigilant and remain so, maintaining the new one metre-plus rule
"The council has introduced wider pavements in busy areas and one way systems to allow for safe social distancing. We are using Street Ambassadors throughout the borough to assist the public where potential bottlenecks occur," he added.
While Scarborough's businesses had "suffered greatly" during the lockdown, there was now a chance to "salvage some of the remaining season", Mr Siddons said.
Bradley Gledhill, 20, from Heckmondwike, was stabbed in a fight on Sunday night.

A Hull MP has called for the city's inclusion in a £9m government scheme to support school pupils over the summer holidays after it missed out.
Hull East Labour MP Karl Turner has written to Education Secretary Gavin Williamson after the city wasn't chosen for the Holiday Activities and Food programme.
A total of 17 local authority areas are set to benefit from the funding, which will go towards healthy meals for children and activities such as dance, yoga and outdoor adventure play.
Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield are among the cities allocated a share of the funding pot, which is set to support around 50,000 children across England through the summer.
Mr Turner said it was "incredibly" disappointing Hull would not receive a share of the “vital” funding, given it is one of the most deprived areas in the country.
He wrote: "Hull City Council has gone above and beyond to provide for children during this pandemic, but opportunities such as these cannot be replicated without central government funding.
"Although it is a positive step to see other cities will benefit from this scheme, I am incredibly disappointed and concerned not to see Hull on the list."
Children and Families Minister Vicky Ford said meeting the needs of disadvantaged children was more important than ever.

A gin maker from Whitby is looking to move its operation into the shadow of the town’s iconic abbey which adorns its bottles.
Whitby Distillery, the makers of Whitby Gin, was founded in 2017 by Jessica Slater and Luke Pentith, and their products are now stocked in over 300 outlets across the UK.
The gin is crafted using hand-foraged botanicals from the Yorkshire coast and moorland, with over 600 bottles of it sold every week.
Having moved their operation out of the town as it started to grow, the pair say they're now looking to move to Whitby Abbey by renovating empty buildings on Abbey Lands Farm.
Mr Pentith said they had been looking for a "forever" home for the distillery and believe they've found it on the farm.
As well as the distillery, the plans also include a visitor centre.
Mr Pentith said the business would be sympathetic to its surroundings and had the support of English Heritage, which owns the abbey, and Natural England.
He said: "We promote Whitby’s culture and heritage to a wider audience and that means that our goals as a business align with their core foundations as a charity to inspire the future guardians of Whitby to care for these properties."
The plans are now out for consultation.
Three more arrests have been made in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old man in Batley at the weekend.
Bradley Gledhill, from Heckmondwike, died in hospital following an "altercation" at Park Croft at about 22:30 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, two other males allegedly involved in the fighting suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries in the incident, according to West Yorkshire Police.
Two men aged 18 and 23, both from Batley, and an 18-year-old man from Heckmondwike, were arrested in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of Mr Gledhill's murder, police say.
A 19-year-old man from Batley who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.
A 31-year-old Heckmondwike man who had previously been arrested on suspicion of affray is no longer a suspect and has been released with no further action taken, officers add.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
Det Ch Insp Vanessa Rolfe said: "Any scrap of information could be important as we work to investigate this serious disorder which has led to two men being injured and a young man losing his life."
A pub in Sheffield city centre won't reopen after the coronavirus pandemic, it's been confirmed.
The Devonshire Cat, on Wellington Street, announced on Facebook that it won't be reopening after the "devastating impact" the coronavirus pandemic has had.
It added that a reduction in footfall over the last few years made running the pub tough, with the Covid-19 crisis having had "a devastating effect".
It said: "Unfortunately, the rateable value of our city centre venue was too high to benefit from the grants offered at this time.
"Given the uncertainty surrounding the future of the hospitality industry and the prospect of long-term changes to social interaction, we have come to the decision we are not in a position to re-open."
The number of people killed or seriously injured in Leeds fell by 48% compared with March 2019.

Read MoreProjects to make North Yorkshire roads safer are to benefit from the sale of a special car registration plate which once belonged to North Yorkshire Police.
The AJ1 number plate sold at auction last year for £243,000, with the money now going towards road safety projects across the county.
The number plate was the first to be used in the North of Riding of Yorkshire when they were first introduced in 1903, the force said.
Once taking pride of place on the Chief Constable's car (pictured), it was decided that by selling the number plate, some of the money earned could then be invested in road safety projects.
In total, they will benefit from a £190,000 fund, with some money from the number plate sale already being spent on a memorial garden at North Yorkshire Police's HQ.
People can apply to the force for a slice of the money, with projects being asked "to focus on improving road safety for children and young people, cyclists, motorcyclists and older road users".

The York-based manufacturer of the famous KitKat chocolate bars, millions of which are produced at a factory in the city every day, has severed its ties with Fairtrade despite warnings thousands of farmers will be hit by move.
The boss of Fairtrade said owner Nestle's decision to cut its 10-year association with the non-profit organisation is "profoundly disappointing".
The Swiss-owned food giant said it will now source its cocoa for KitKat bars from farms on Rainforest Alliance terms instead of those working with Fairtrade accreditation.
Nestle, whose confectionery headquarters is in York, already uses Rainforest Alliance-certified farmers on other bars, but it says it will start the new partnership for KitKat from October.
However, Michael Gidney, chief executive of the Fairtrade Foundation, told the PA news agency that its cocoa farmers in the Ivory Coast were "devastated" by the news.
He said: "It would never be good news, but to face this when the country is looking at one of the worst health crises imaginable makes things particularly difficult. The decision is a huge blow."
Simon Billington, global technical manager for Nestle Confectionery, said the firm is aware "the move will have an impact on some farmers", but said it is "working hard" to mitigate this.
The company said it will provide financial support to help its current farmers to certify with the Rainforest Alliance if they wish.
About four million KitKat bars are made at the Nestle factory on Haxby Road in York every day.
One of the schools has closed for seven days for a deep clean, according to Leeds City Council.

A meat factory in West Yorkshire which was hit by a coronavirus outbreak has reopened today after workers were tested for the virus.
Asda supplier Kober announced it was to close last week after a number of workers tested positive for the virus.
Now, Asda says the Cleckheaton factory has been allowed to reopen after being declared fit.
It said: "We have worked collaboratively with Kirklees Council and Public Health England since the site closed over a week ago and they support our decision to reopen.
"The site will re-open on a reduced capacity and only colleagues that have been tested and declared fit to return will be on site.
"While Kirklees Council were satisfied with our existing safety procedures, we have introduced some additional measures as a precaution.
"These include separation of colleagues on different shifts and checking the temperature of colleagues before they enter the site."
The parents of a 22-year-old Leeds University student who died in a car crash in North Yorkshire last week have paid tribute to "the bubbly gregarious person she was".
Juliana Keshishian was the rear passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa which left the road and crashed on the B6451 Brame Lane, near Stainburn Forest, at about 18:05 on Thursday 18 June.
In a statement, Ms Keshishian's parents said their daughter "had her whole life to look forward to" and was planning to embark on a career in international relations or humanitiarian work.
She was "always smiling, always willing to help in any way she could her fellow students and the wider community", they added.
Ms Keshishian was "an accomplished pianist and flautist" and had spent a recent summer break from her studies as a volunteer at a refugee camp in Greece.
"Juliana achieved more in her short life than many do in their whole lives...She will be sorely missed," they added.
Anyone who saw the crash in which Ms Keshishian died, or who saw the vehicle prior to the collision, including anyone with dashcam footage of the car, is being asked to contact police.
The driver of the blue Corsa, a 23-year-old man from Liverpool, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is now assisting the police investigation.
The front seat passenger of the car, a 24-year-old woman from Teddington, is recovering in hospital, according to North Yorkshire Police.
A decision is due to be made today on the future of two Sheffield pubs which allegedly broke lockdown rules during the coronavirus pandemic.
Police say they found drinkers hiding in cupboards when they raided the Pitsmoor Hotel in April following reports from members of the public that it was still serving customers.
South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield City Council issued a prohibition order forcing it to shut.
Another pub, the Staffordshire Arms, Burngreave, is also accused of breaking the rules by continuing to service customers.
The licence held by the landlord of both pubs, Paul Greasby, will be reviewed later.
Nearly 300 cannabis plants have been seized by police in Hull after beat officers spotted "suspicious" activity while on patrol.
The cannabis factory was found in a raid at a property on Beverley Road on Sunday, with a total of 285 plants and about 4kg of "carefully cut dried cannabis" being discovered, according to Humberside Police.
Community Beat Manager PC Tim McGowan said: "This was a sophisticated set-up, with modifications made to the building, including the removal of a staircase, to facilitate the grow.
"We are pleased to say this activity has been disrupted and the cannabis grown here is now off our streets and cannot be used for criminal gain," he added.
Anyone with information about activities at the property is being asked at to contact Humberside Police.
