More than half a million pounds will be spent at Harrogate District Hospital to upgrade its A&E department in a bid to restore patients' confidence ahead of peak pressure in the winter months, it's been confirmed.
The hospital has been awarded £527,000 of government cash which will be used to create more space for social distancing in response to concerns that patients are still avoiding treatment because of coronavirus fears, according to the trust which runs the hospital.
Some of the money will also be used to upgrade diagnostic equipment as services restart after being suspended during the coronavirus lockdown, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust said.
Jonathan Coulter, from the trust, said: “We’re really pleased to have received this investment. It means we will be able to adapt our space to better facilitate social distancing.
"Hospital staff are currently working very hard to provide safe care for patients in environments which we’ve carefully had to adapt and reorganise as a result of the pandemic.
"This money allows us to properly invest and will put us in a better place before winter."
Across England, the government is providing £300m to A&E departments, with work to be completed by the start of next year so hospitals can be ready for the flu and a potential second wave of Covid-19.
A seven-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in Bradford last night.
Emergency services were called at about 22:00 to the scene of the crash involving the boy, who was on foot, and a Black Toyota Auris Estate at the junction of Manchester Road and St Stephen's Road.
The boy was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he later died as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, a 29-year-old man from Bradford, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, according to West Yorkshire Police.
Anyone who saw what happened, or the car prior to the incident, is being urged to contact police.
A rottweiler dog which was found "dumped, collapsed and suffering" in a Leeds street has had to be put down, according to the RSPCA.
The female dog was found on Ashton Street on Saturday by a member of the public.
The animal was emaciated, had sore eyes, a sore mouth and feet, overgrown nails and a possible spinal issue, the animal charity said.
RSPCA inspector Kris Walker said: “She remained on a drip until yesterday, when her condition deteriorated further and the vet treating her advised she needed to be put to sleep on humane grounds.
"I believe she was dumped. She couldn’t stand at all when she was found, so it seems very unlikely she ended up on this street of her own accord.
"She was in a terrible state and has been suffering for some considerable time," he added.
The dog was not microchipped so at the moment it's difficult to trace her owner, according to the RSPCA, which is appealing for anyone who recognises the dog to get in touch.
A girl is seen posing for a photo on a level crossing in East Yorkshire in "shocking" CCTV released by Network Rail.
The footage was captured last year near Harpham, where trains travel at up to 70mph.
Film also shows a group of cyclists congregating on the tracks to take photos.
A cyclist can be seen wedging his bike in the tracks to help a rider through the gate on to the crossing.
Network Rail said it was "incredibly dangerous behaviour".
It added that the incidents at the Mingledale level crossing "could have resulted in fatal or life-changing consequences".
People are being urged to avoid the scene of an "ongoing incident" in part of Scarborough at the moment.
A cordon is currently in place on Franklin Street to allow emergency services, including a police negotiator, to respond, according to North Yorkshire Police.
Officers say people should avoid the area "until further notice".
A 71-year-old cyclist has been seriously hurt in a suspected road traffic collision in Barnsley, police say.
The man was found laid on the A635 Doncaster Road at about 10:00 on Tuesday morning and was taken to the Northern General Hospital for treatment.
Anyone who saw what happened or who was in the area at the time and who may have dash cam footage is being asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.
An impressive lightning show might have woken you up overnight if you live in some parts of thunderstorm-hit Yorkshire.
Some people living in South Yorkshire were woken up in the early hours to an hour-long display of lightning.
A few intrepid types grabbed their cameras and took these shots, including Tina (above) who said it was her first attempt at photographing lightning.
In Millhouses, Sheffield, Ricky's photo (above) shows the moment a bolt of lightning hits the ground.
And Keeley Jarvis snapped the below picture from her window of another bolt spreading across the sky.
Any low cloud and mist will burn back to the coast this morning leaving a dry, hot and humid day, with hazy sunshine and the risk of thunderstorms later.

Super League has been thrown into chaos after six Hull FC players, five of whom played against Salford on Sunday, tested positive for Covid-19.
Two members of the coaching team have also returned positive results in tests that took place the day after the game.
Both clubs have been told to cancel training over the next few days, with those who have tested positive being forced to quarantine until 21 August.
The results of Salford's tests have not yet been returned.
The RFL is set to analyse Sunday's game to determine how many players will now be required to self-isolate as a result of prolonged contacts with the infected players, as part of procedures agreed with Public Health England.
The news puts Hull's game against Castleford next Sunday in doubt, as well as Salford's match with Catalans Dragons on Saturday.
Both matches were due to be played as part of a full round of fixtures behind closed doors at St Helens.
The Challenge Cup tie between Hull and Castleford, set to be shown on BBC One the following weekend, is also now in doubt.
The RFL says it will make an announcement on those fixtures as soon as possible.
