Read MoreComplaints have been made about the smell coming from an East Yorkshire cannabis farm.
The site, in Welton, grows medicinal hemp which is available on prescription for chronic pain and epilepsy.
Councillor Terry Gill said East Riding of Yorkshire Council had received 28 official complaints.
The use of medicinal cannabis was legalised in 2018. Treatments can be prescribed only by specialist doctors in a limited number of circumstances where other medicines have failed.
Yorkshire Botanicals director Nigel Bartle said the firm had been growing hemp at the site for the last six years.
He said the firm was trying to work out why concerns have been raised now "and not in any previous years".
"We grow a range of varieties and our methods have not changed, but every season is different.
"A combination of the weather conditions at different stages, both in temperatures, and wind direction, the varieties on the summer crop and the impact of more people being at home could all have impacted," he said.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Leeds in the early hours of yesterday morning, police say.
The men, aged 28 and 37, were arrested this morning in connection with the death of 47-year-old Glenn Smith.
Mr Smith was found by paramedics at a property on Whingate Avenue in Armley at about 04:00 on Thursday morning and died at the scene.
Both arrested men remain in custody, according to West Yorkshire Police.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out later to establish the cause of Mr Smith's death, officers say.
Det Ch Insp Tony Nicholson says: "Glenn’s family are devastated at his death in such sudden and violent circumstances and we have specialist officers supporting them at this difficult time.
"We are continuing to carry out extensive inquiries and will do everything we can to get Glenn’s family the answers they need."
Det Ch Insp Nicholson added that though it was initially thought Mr Smith had been assaulted during a disturbance involving a group of youths, officers are now satisfied the suspects are all adults.
"We believe they are known to the victim and there is no link to any previous incidents involving the victim or in the area generally," he said.
Anyone with information which could help police is being asked to get in touch with the West Yorkshire force.
People in Leeds are being asked stay safe during the coronavirus pandemic by avoiding large gatherings during the upcoming August bank holiday weekend.
Several major events planned for the bank holiday weekend have been cancelled due to the pandemic, including Leeds Festival, Leeds West Indian Carnival and the Black Music Festival.
According to West Yorkshire Police, Leeds has recently seen a "number" of unlicensed events being held, such as raves, which are banned under current lockdown restrictions.
There are "concerns" that similar events are being organised for the bank holiday weekend, the force says.
Assistant Ch Con Tim Kingsman says: "We recognise the frustration and disappointment there will be, particularly among young people, that this year’s events have had to be postponed.
"Unlicensed events and large gatherings present a real risk to everyone’s health, and we hope people will take this message on board and do the right thing for themselves and their communities."
The West Yorkshire force was working with other organisations and agencies "to intervene and deter" any known planned unlicensed events, the force added.

The search for the mother of a dead baby found wrapped in a beach towel on a Bradford street is continuing this morning.
The child, believed to be a newborn, was found yesterday wrapped in a pink towel featuring the island of Fuerteventura, West Yorkshire Police said.
Officers have been searching a waste recycling centre on Bowling Back Lane, the road where the infant was found.
The force said it was working to locate the baby's mother to ensure she received care and support.
Police have not confirmed whether the baby is a girl or a boy.
Sara Hollins, head of midwifery for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Our main priority is to find the mum of the baby as we are concerned for her wellbeing and want to ensure she gets the appropriate medical care and support.
"We are urging mum or any friends of mum to call the police," she added.

Nearly half a million UK pupils face a fresh round of results chaos after exam board Pearson pulled its BTec results on the eve of releasing them.
Pearson said it would be re-grading all its BTecs to bring them in line with A-levels and GCSEs, which are now being graded via school-based assessments.
Natasha Barley, director of Hull and East Yorkshire Children's University, said it was tough for students who couldn't plan their futures.
She said: "Hundreds of thousands of students aren't getting the results they were supposed to get today because the follow-up of the exam fiasco just carries on.
"And for BTecs, who were supposed to get their grades today and who are trying to plan their futures, now they're going to have to wait for how long until they actually get their results to make some kind of decision about what they're going to do next year?
"I just feel so sorry for them," she added.
Bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis has launched a consultation on plans to cut 650 jobs across the UK, including 90 in Scarborough.
It said the decision followed a "significant fall" in demand for new vehicles in the UK.
As well as the jobs in Scarborough, 160 are set to go at the firm's site in Falkirk, 200 in Surrey and a further 200 other roles across its bases.
Managing director Paul Davies said: "We have no choice but to implement these tough decisions".
He added it was necessary "to protect the company's future health".
"We remain confident that the situation will improve in time, and we are well placed to take advantage when that happens, but right now we have to adjust to our new economic reality."
He asked the UK and Scottish governments to "urgently introduce meaningful support"
