    The Met Office have upgraded a snow warning for parts of Yorkshire on Tuesday.

    An earlier yellow snow warning for the region has been upgraded to the amber alert for parts of North, West and South Yorkshire.

    Forecasters now say they expect heavy snow in the affected areas from 03:00 on Tuesday until the early afternoon.

    The Met Office says between three and eight centimetres of snow are expected with between 10 and 15 centimetres in areas over 200m.

    They warn:

    • Travel delays on roads are likely, stranding some vehicles and passengers
    • Some delays and cancellations to rail and air travel are likely
    • There is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off
    • Power cuts are likely and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected

    The unknown man entered Brampton Local on Knollbeck Avenue carrying a knife just after 20:00 on 5 January, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    The man threatened members of staff before leaving with an amount of cash.

    Anyone who recognises the man in the images, or who knows anything about the incident, is being urged to contact police.

    Coronavirus vaccine appointments which should have gone ahead on Tuesday morning in some parts of North Yorkshire will be rescheduled because of heavy snow being forecast.

    A yellow "be aware" Met Office weather warning is in place from 16:00 today until 12:00 tomorrow for heavy rain and snow.

    As a result, NHS North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) says it has taken the decision to suspend the Covid-19 vaccination programme "in the interests of patient safety".

    People who were expecting their vaccine between 08:00 and 12:45 on Tuesday at the Yorkshire Event Centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate and at Ripon Racecourse are being told not to travel.

    Some individual GP practices are also cancelling appointments.

    Patients are being contacted directly, with a system in place to rebook appointments.

    The CCG added that appointments currently scheduled for Tuesday afternoon will go ahead as planned.

    An 18-year-old man has been treated in hospital for serious injuries to his leg after the car he was a passenger in hit a tree in Leeds, say police.

    A Seat Ibiza collided with a tree in Temple Newsam Park at about 20:30 on Saturday, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    The car was being driven on Temple Newsam Road towards the direction of Temple Newsam House when it came off the road, police said.

    Anyone who saw the collision or the car beforehand, or who has video footage of it, is asked to contact police.

    Take-up of the Covid-19 vaccine among care home staff has been "an issue", but there has recently been increased uptake, Boris Johnson has said during a visit to West Yorkshire.

    Visiting a vaccination centre in Batley, the Prime Minister told reporters: "We're working fast to sort it out and we're now seeing a big increase in uptake in care home staff and that's a great thing to see, and I've seen in the last few weeks a big increase in the receptivity of care home staff to the vaccinations."

    He also said he wanted to see care home residents and their families reunited "as soon as we sensibly and safely can", but visits needed to be approached "cautiously" and the government must be sure vaccinations are really working, he added.

    During his visit to the vaccination centre, Mr Johnson confirmed all elderly care home residents have received or are due to receive their first dose of the Covid jab.

    He added he was confident the UK has enough supply to give those residents a second dose within 12 weeks.

    However, he warned the country will be "living with Covid for a while to come".

    A 14-year-old victim of the Manchester Arena bombing says a couple from West Yorkshire saved her life.

    Twenty-two people were murdered and hundreds more injured when Salman Abedi detonated a bomb in the arena foyer as fans left the concert on 22 May 2017. Six of those who died were from Yorkshire.

    A number of ordinary people made the decision not to run away from the horror, but to stay to help the injured and dying, including Bradford couple Kim Dick and her partner Phil (pictured).

    They came to the aid of injured teenager Freya Lewis.

    Kim says: "There was blood coming out of her mouth, and I thought 'oh my God I've got to look after her. I've got to get her out of here'."

    Freya kept sliding down and closing her eyes as Kim strained to hold her up, talking to her non-stop to keep her conscious.

    Freya says: "I think the absolute world of them, they're in my thoughts every single day. They are the reason that I'm still here. Kim and Phil saved my life.

    "I'll be eternally grateful to them for the rest of my life."

    After multiple operations and a long rehabilitation, Freya is now applying to drama school, with dreams of becoming an actress.

    An inquiry into the attack is continuing.

    The Met Office has issued a yellow "be aware" warning for snow and ice, external for parts of Yorkshire in place from 22:00 this evening.

    Snow, with a risk of widespread ice, is expected this evening and in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

    The Met Office says: "The conditions could bring difficult travelling conditions with possible travel delays on roads, stranding some vehicles and passengers, particularly on higher level routes."

    Meanwhile four flood warnings, external- meaning immediate action should be taken as flooding is expected - remain in place in Yorkshire.

    The new centre at Jacob's Well Car park will offer vaccinations by appointment to those who live within a 45-minute travel time of the centre.

    Meanwhile, two new covid mass vaccination centres are set to open this week in North Yorkshire, taking the total in the county to five.

    The new centres are due to open at Ripon Racecourse and Summit Indoor Adventure in Selby.

    Selby GP Dr Nigel Wells says: "It's brilliant for Selby and great community spirit to pull this together.

    "It's the right thing for Selby so that we know that the 50,000 residents can get really good access to the vaccination."

    Scarborough Rugby Club opened as a vaccine site on Friday, adding to those in York and Harrogate.

    Three people arrested on suspicion of murdering a man in Sheffield have been released on bail.

    The 45-year-old victim was found with serious injuries on High Green Road at about 01:00 on Saturday and died while being taken to hospital.

    Police said a post-mortem examination revealed he died from a bleed on the brain, "but further medical examination is required".

    Two men aged 25 and 31 and a 19-year-old woman were arrested on Saturday.

    South Yorkshire Police said they have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

    A man died in hospital after Sunday's crash at the junction of College Lane and Filey Road in Scarborough.

    North Yorkshire Police initially said one person at the scene had tested positive for Covid-19.

    The force now say the positive test was on 6 January and "people who came into contact with them do not need to isolate as previously thought".

    A police spokesperson said: "Our thanks once again to those who stopped to help and our apologies for any confusion this may have caused."

    The family of a man who was fatally injured in a collision in Doncaster have shared his name as they urge witnesses to come forward, police say.

    Emergency services were called to a collision involving a red Peugeot 207 and a pedestrian on Carr House Road, just before 18:00 on Monday 11 January, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    The pedestrian, named by his family as 65-year-old John Cave, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

    The Peugeot driver remained on scene and is co-operating with an investigation into the incident, but officers say more details are needed.

    Mr Cave's step-daughter, Jane Murray, who is urging witnesses to come forward, said: “John was a loving father, granddad and friend to all. He was a happy, outgoing, friendly man and everyone who met him loved him.

    “We don't hold any malice towards the driver for the collision and want a fair and independent investigation to find out what has happened.”

    Witnesses to the collision, especially motorists with dashcam footage, are asked to call police.

    A coroner has not yet received the prison ombudsman's report into the death of serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, who died from a combination of Covid-19, diabetes and heart disease on November 13.

    Sutcliffe, dubbed the Yorkshire Ripper, was serving a whole-life term for murdering 13 women across Yorkshire and north west England.

    He was caught in 1980.

    The former lorry driver, from Bradford, died in hospital where he is said to have refused treatment for Covid-19. He also had other health problems.

    Sutcliffe, who was also found guilty of the attempted murder of seven women, was convicted in 1981.

    He spent three decades at Broadmoor Hospital before being moved to HMP Frankland in County Durham in 2016.

    This morning the assistant senior coroner for County Durham and Darlington, Crispin Oliver, held a brief hearing at Crook Civic Centre to give an update into how the inquiry was progressing.

    Mr Oliver said the Frankland jail life prisoner changed his surname by deed poll in 2001 and for the purposes of the inquest will be known as Peter William Coonan, previously known as Peter William Sutcliffe.

    Updating the record about the progression of the case, the coroner said: "I can confirm that the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman's report is still pending. I am awaiting that."

    The coroner said there will be another hearing to assess progress on 31 March.
