Drink-driving arrests rise as beer gardens reopenpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 30 April 2021
Police in North Yorkshire have arrested 35 people on suspicion of drug or drink-driving since beer gardens reopened earlier this month.
York has seen the highest number of arrests since the reopening of pubs on 12 April, with a total of 11, according to North Yorkshire Police.
Eight have been made in Harrogate, six in Scarborough, six in Ryedale, four in Hambleton, four in Richmond, three in Craven and three in Selby, police said.
A further 17 drivers have been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving offences, officers added.
Sgt Andrew Morton said: "We've only just been allowed to start going to beer gardens again – don’t ruin this for yourself by losing your licence, getting a criminal record and driving ban, paying a heavy fine or going to prison."
