    A couple walking on a North Yorkshire beach popular with tourists were assaulted by a group of three men after their dogs got into a fight.

    The couple's dog and one of three small small black dogs walking with a group of men got into "an altercation" at about 16:00 on Wednesday at Runswick Bay, according to North Yorkshire Police.

    The assault resulted in a cut to the victim’s face, police said.

    Officers are asking for information from anyone who saw the incident to help identify the three men.

    They're particularly interested in finding the main suspect, who is described as a white, 5ft 10in, thought to be in his late 30s to early 40s, and was wearing a grey or black T-shirt and orange shorts.

    He was accompanied by two males and three small black dogs.

    Anyone who was on the beach at the time, or who has any information about the incident, is asked to contact police.

    Police are appealing for information after a man arrested over a sexual assault on a Lincolnshire nature reserve was released with no further action to be taken.

    The 23-year-old was arrested on 2 August in connection with a sexual assault in the early hours of 12 July at Mareham Pastures, Sleaford, according to Lincolnshire Police.

    A spokesperson for the force said: "We are continuing our inquiries and would like to again appeal for anyone with any information, no matter how big or small, to come forward."

    Det Ch Supt Diane Coulson, said: “We would like to reassure people the investigation is by no means over.

    "Our investigations have eliminated three people, but there are still multiple lines of inquiry we are following."

    The force says it's continuing to patrol the area and is asking anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

    Six Yorkshire reservoirs have been chosen to play a role in a scheme to help reverse the decline of wild bees.

    The Bee Together project aims to create a network of pollinator habitats stretching from Yorkshire to Lancashire.

    It was established in response to a study by 50 conservation groups in 2016, external, which showed a decline in bee populations.

    Yorkshire Water has provided £30,000 to create habitats at six of its reservoirs in the Yorkshire Dales.

    Catherine Mercer from The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) said 2016's State of Nature report had shown 60% of bees and other pollinators were in decline.

    "Bees continue to face a wide range of threats, from toxic pesticides to climate change, however the most significant reason for their decline is the loss of wildflower-rich habitats," she said.

    "Projects such as this one are vital in reversing these declines, through engagement, education and practical conservation."

    Yorkshire Water said the new habitats would be created at its reservoirs at Fewston, Swinsty, Thruscross, Embsay, Grimwith and Barden.

    Firefighters rescued a Labrador after it got into trouble going for a swim in North Yorkshire's River Ouse.

    Harvey, who is said to be 13, was rescued by a crew from Huntington in York from the river near Beningbrough Hall on Thursday.

    Writing on social media, external they said the dog was "unable to get himself out of the water and up the steep banking."

    Adding that Harvey has "now been returned to his grateful owner."

    A man's been arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat after a road was evacuated in Lincoln on Thursday.

    Carbourne Avenue and part of Nettleham Road were cordoned off around 13:30 BST after police received a call to say a package had been place under a car.

    In a statement Lincolnshire Police said: "We are now reassured this was a hoax threat.

    "The roads have been reopened and business will return to normal in the area.

    "A man has been arrested on suspicion of the hoax."

    Police have thanked local residents for their patience.

    The opening date has been announced for the first wave of shops in Barnsley town centre’s newest shopping and leisure scheme.

    The Glass Works is due to open its doors to shoppers on 9 September, with retailers Next, TK Maxx and Sports Direct unveiling their new stores.

    Cineworld is also set to open a 13-screen multiplex in early 2022.

    The scheme, which won a regeneration award at the Planning Awards earlier this year, has been in the works since 2017, and will be home to cafes, restaurants, a bowling alley and shops.

    It will also feature a new public square.

    Steve Houghton, leader of Barnsley Council, said: "The opening of The Glass Works Square and removal of the hoardings is a truly great moment.

    "It gives everyone a chance to see the scale and quality of their new public space."

    The A64 is now fully open after a crane fire near Tadcaster forced overnight repairs to the damaged road.

    The blaze, which started just after 07:00 yesterday morning, caused long tailbacks on both carriageways of the road.

    The eastbound carriageway was closed for 20 hours while recovery and resurfacing work took place.

    Ryan Biggerstass, a national network manager at Highways England, said: "We managed to reopen around 03:00.

    "It was a pretty extensive job in terms of recovery of the vehicle and resurfacing about 50m of the road, but it's open now in both directions.

    "The fire was so intense the crane's tyres exploded and landed on the opposite carriageway, so it took quite a while to put the fire out."

    A colourful new bin in the shape of a lifebuoy has been installed in Scarborough to make people think about their plastic waste.

    It's been installed on Foreshore Road.

    Officials say the eye-catching design and location means it will hopefully be seen and used by hundreds of people each day to responsibly dispose of their plastic waste.

    The lifebuoy bin's been paid for by the Green Seas Trust which has put similar bins up elsewhere in the country

    The charity says it'll be in place all year round to act as a permanent reminder of the "urgent need to protect our waters," to give the environment and marine habitats a lifeline.

    Councillor Eric Broadbent, mayor of Scarborough said: "This bin looks fantastic and I’m so pleased we’ve got it in place for the summer season."

    Fighter jets were scrambled to escort a plane into Leeds Bradford Airport after it lost communication earlier today.

    The RAF Typhoons were launched from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire this afternoon after the small Rockwell Commander plane was found to be uncontactable as it headed north.

    Communications were re-established with the Guernsey-registered aircraft but the jets continued to escort the plane until it landed in Yorkshire.

    One of the Typhoons was captured in the skies above Leeds (above) by Twitter user YorkshireDora.

    An RAF spokesman said: "The RAF can confirm Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon aircraft were launched this afternoon from RAF Coningsby to intercept a civilian aircraft that had lost communications; subsequently, communications were re-established, the aircraft was intercepted and safely escorted to Leeds Bradford Airport.”

    An airport spokesperson added: "Air traffic control temporarily lost contact with a light aircraft this afternoon. As per standard procedure, it was escorted by the RAF and guided to LBA. The aircraft has since safely landed and the incident closed down without any further action being taken."

    A 15-year-old boy has died in hospital four days after being stabbed in a South Yorkshire street.

    The teenager was attacked on Sunday in Fish Dam Lane, in Monk Bretton, near Barnsley.

    South Yorkshire Police said the boy suffered a knife wound to his chest and died as a result of his injuries on Thursday.

    A 17-year-old boy was charged on Monday with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

    Det Ch Insp Mark Oughton, said "I know this news will be distressing for the local community, but I want to reassure people that this was an isolated incident, and there is no wider risk to the public."

    The force has appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

    Two men have been arrested following a fight between two groups in Huddersfield, police have said.

    The men were seen fighting in the Halifax Old Road and Wasps Nest Road area of Huddersfield on Tuesday shortly after 18:00, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    Some of brawlers fled the scene in a Vauxhall Astra, police said.

    One man was later arrested at an address in Keldregate in Bradley on suspicion of public order offences.

    Another man was arrested nearby on suspicion of possession of a firearm. Both remain in custody, officers confirmed.

    Det Insp Oliver Coates, said: "We're continuing to investigate the incident and I would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the fighting or saw a suspect flee the scene in the Vauxhall Astra.

    “We've now recovered that car and are continuing to question two men arrested in connection with the incident."

    A section of the eastbound carriageway of the A64 at Tadcaster damaged by a crane fire this morning is not expected to open until 06:00 on Friday, Highways England has said.

    The westbound carriageway at Tadcaster is now open after the blaze earlier today.

    The eastbound carriageway between the A659 Tadcaster West and the junction with the A659 Tadcaster East remains closed.

    Highways England says: "Due to repairs needed on the carriageway and the removal of the 100-tonne crane, which has now been extinguished, the eastbound carriageway is not expected to reopen until at least 06:00 tomorrow morning."

    Stephen Strong, from Highways England, said: "We’re working as fast as we can to carry out the essential and emergency repairs required to the eastbound carriageway, as well as the safe removal of the crane, so we can ensure a safe flow of traffic.

    "We’re urging drivers who have to travel this route to allow extra journey time and plan ahead."
