North Kesteven District Council (NKDC) and Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) expressed worries about the location of Three's mast on Warren Lane in Witham St Hughs.

The site was deemed to have consent after NKDC failed to meet a deadline for a decision, despite saying it had intentions to refuse the proposals.

Work began on the site last week but now it appears the mobile operator has re-filled the hole for the 18-metre tall mast.

An NKDC spokesperson said “Work on the 5G telecommunications mast footings has been instructed to pause at this time, following concerns around the impact of the mast on the footpath and cycleway."

A spokesperson for Three said they were “awaiting consent from the Highways Authority to open the road to enable us to build the mast”.

Eight pumps and crews from across the region were sent to tackle the blaze shortly after 13:00 on Tuesday after a call from an engineer working at the transmitter north of Helmsley.

In a statement North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters had "worked to control the fire in difficult circumstances and extinguished a fire in a single-storey stone building and transmitter mast".

  14. Hull academic's animal IQ test projectpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 10 August 2021

    PA Media

Scientists are planning on setting "animal IQ tests" for foxes and badgers to find out if wild carnivores in the UK are clever enough to adapt to environmental change.

Dr Blake Morton, a psychology lecturer at the University of Hull, is hoping the study will help researchers discover which factors allow the animals to react to changes in climate and the environment - which could ultimately determine their future survival.

The British Carnivore Project is one of very few studies to be carried out on the intelligence of carnivores in the UK and will see the creatures having to solve a number of challenges.

Dr Morton said that - based on brain size - he would expect the larger-brained foxes to be more intelligent and better problem-solvers than badgers.

But a previous study on wild animals in the USA had shown that those with bigger brains did not always respond in a clever or predictable way.

Dr Morton tested raccoons and opossums with a series of tasks, which he described as an "animal IQ test", that they had to solve in order to receive a treat as a reward.

He said: "It is all about a species' brain size. Smarter species are typically more adaptive, and innovation is one important way for animals to survive."

He added: "However, from our research in America with animals like raccoons and opossums, we are finding wild animals with big brains still do not always act in a clever way."

Lord Bob Kerslake will take over running the Sheffield Culture Collective (SCC) in September from current head Dame Julie Kenny.

SCC is a public/private partnership which was formed in 2019 after a national inquiry into how cities can use culture to drive growth and create a stronger and fairer society.

It includes cultural, arts, civic and political leaders as well as senior figures from business.

Last month SCC launched its strategy on how culture can unlock Sheffield’s untapped economic and social potential.

It spotlighted delivery of four "pivotal" arts projects which, they say, could become the north’s cultural crown jewels.

These include the S1 Artspace at Park Hill, The Graves Gallery and Central Library, education and music partnership Harmony Works and Tinsley Art Project.Lord Kerslake said: “I look forward to working with others to make the strategy a reality.”

Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield said a "small amount" of blue-green algae had been found in the water, forcing it to warn dog owners to keep animals out of the water.
