    Barnsley Hospital will charge for parking again, after it was made free during the pandemic.

    In March 2020, the hospital announced that parking would be made free to staff, essential visitors and contractors.

    Parking has remained free ever since, but parking charges will apply as of 11 October

    A spokesperson said that the trust “regret” to have to charge for parking, but “the cost of security and maintenance for our car parks means we have to make a modest charge so we don’t divert money away from patient care”.

    A driver suffered life-threatening injuries when he crashed into several parked cars in Leeds last night.

    It happened at around 20:15 on Rookwood Road in Osmondthorpe, with the 33-year-old man, who was driving a Ford Focus, taken to hospital.

    Another man, thought to be a passenger who left the scene of the crash, was taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm.

    West Yorkshire Police wants to speak to anyone who witnessed or has more information about the crash.

    Estate agents in East Yorkshire say they are experiencing higher demand for properties than they have seen for decades.

    House prices in Bridlington have risen by 19% over the past year, more than twice the UK average increase.

    Agents say some people have been buying properties without viewing them and paying considerably over the asking price, including a big increase in buyers from down south.

    John Harris, from Harris Shields Collection, says "People have thought well, if I sell up down south I can afford to buy outright here. No mortgage, don't need to earn as much and you know what it's easier to get to work, it's quicker, it's cheaper, the pubs are cheaper, the food is cheaper."

    Twelve amateur jockeys from across the UK are taking part in one of the nation's most successful charity horse races today at York Racecourse.

    Plans for a new A&E department at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary have been approved three years after NHS bosses scrapped plans to close the department.

    The new facility is due to be built on land currently occupied by a car park and staff accommodation at the Acre Street site.

    According to planning documents before Kirklees Council,, external the existing nursing block on South Drive would be demolished and replaced with a new single-storey clinical building.

    It will house “majors and minors” treatment areas, including dedicated paediatric facilities – comprising 19 treatment bays in total – together with four resuscitation bays and two X-ray rooms.

    Work on the new A&E building, which was approved by councillors on Thursday, could start as soon as December and it is hoped the new department will open in 2023.

    Anna Basford, from Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, said the new facility was needed as the existing department was “reaching near the end of its functional life and is no longer fit for purpose”.

    Plans to shut the department and move A&E services to Calderdale Royal Hospital were scrapped in 2018.

    Bradford Council for Mosques has held a special event to celebrate its 40th year.

    The religious organisation was the first of its kind in the UK and was set as an umbrella body to unite different communities.

    It marked the milestone with an event involving people of all faiths from across the district.

    President Zulfi Karim said: “It’s a really proud moment for the people of Bradford that we celebrate 40 years of this great organisation. It was set up by our elders to create unity and now it keeps getting bigger and bigger as we have over 100 mosques”

    County mayor Tracy Brabin, who was also at the celebrations, said: “It’s a spectacular event with people all over West Yorkshire coming together to celebrate the excellent work the mosques have done in their leadership, especially during Covid.”

    Police are to reinvestigate the murder of a woman who was discovered in a stream in a North Yorkshire village exactly 21 years ago.

    Vicky Glass, from Middlesbrough, was last seen being dropped off by a taxi driver in the early hours of 24 September 2000.

    Her body was found over a month later in Danby, 13 miles from Whitby on the North York Moors.

    Cleveland Police said a new team was formed to actively reinvestigate her death using new forensic techniques, as well as reviewing CCTV images.

    In 2018, Cleveland Police's Historic Investigation Unit was given additional funding by the Home Office to reinvestigate the case.

    Det Ch Insp Peter Carr said the force had "new and significant" lines of inquiry.

    “There are people who know what happened to Vicky, or maybe have information or things that they know are linked to her death but have not come forward," he said.

    In a statement, her family said the young woman "did not deserve to have her life taken",

    “We feel the loss of Vicky every day, she deserves justice and hope that this reinvestigation puts those responsible behind bars," they added.

    Four people have been arrested in connection with Vicky’s murder since 2000, but all have been released with no further action.

    An inquest into the death of a two-year-old girl who died in a fire at her family's holiday caravan on the Lincolnshire coast has opened.

    Louisiana Brooke Dolan, from Newark, was on holiday at the Sealands Caravan Park at Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire, with her mum and her three siblings when fire broke out on Monday 23 August.

    The toddler died in the fire, with her family managing to escape the blaze.

    The inquest, which opened at Lincoln Coroner's Court this morning, heard the provisional cause of death was that Lousiana breathed in the smoke.

    Coroner's officer Jacqui Foxlow said tests to confirm the cause of death were expected to take eight to 10 weeks.

    Assistant coroner Paul Cooper adjourned the inquest for a full hearing at a later date.

    Almost £20,000 has been raised for the family with more than 750 people donating to a fundraising page set up by a family friend.

    The woman was attacked on Mark Lane in the city centre on 14 August 2015.

    Austin Osayande, 40, of Sissons Road, Leeds, has also been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in the city on 10 September this year.
