The Bradford Beck river system was built on and covered up during the industrial revolution.

Friends of Bradford's Becks has presented a report to be looked at by the council.

Chairman Barney Lerner said: "All the ancient buildings have sewers and drains connected wrongly to the network and we're really concerned about the pollution. There was a major fish kill in 2018 and it's only just beginning to recover."

"We've had a great campaign with Yorkshire Water where volunteers go out and take photos of watercourses but we've been unable to get into the tunnels and we're hoping this year to send some remote monitoring devices in which would set off alarms if they detect high levels of pollution."

  7. Lights in night sky explainedpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 28 September 2021

Strange lights in the sky last night appear to be linked to the launch of a rocket in the USA.

People took to social media to report the cone-shaped illumination in the night sky and to ask if others had seen it.

The lights, which were seen across the UK, appear to be related to the launch of the Atlas V rocket in California.

The launch, part of NASA's Landsat scheme, delivered a satellite observatory into orbit around Earth.

A "de-orbit burn", which sees a firing of the rocket's engines as it re-enters the earth's atmosphere, appear to be the cause of the light.

Elliott Stone, who took the image above from Keighley in West Yorkshire, said: "When I first saw it I thought it was a comet.

"But then I noticed it was travelling the wrong way so I thought it must have been a plane with its light on until I Googled it and realised it was the Atlas V.

"I had no idea until after I took the photo!"

Bob Salt, who lives in Humberston, said: "There were bins flying all over the place. It was a right mess. It was like a war zone. It was like a like an explosion. You wouldn’t think in Humberston that wind could blow a three tonne camper van into next door."

Mr Salt's neighbour, Andrew Saunders, described it as "shocking".

"I saw it [caravan] lift up and watched it as it came down. It was crazy. I thought it's going to come through the front window."
