    Police investigating an attack which left a teenager in Huddersfield with serious injuries have released this e-fit image of a male they want to identify:

    The 17-year-old victim was assaulted by two males on Long Lane, Dalton, at about 20:00 on Friday 19 November.

    He was left with broken leg bones and facial injuries needing hospital treatment.

    Det Insp Oliver Coates said inquiries into the "serious assult" were continuing and officers were "keen" to identify the male shown in the e-fit.

    The two suspects are both described as white males, aged between 15 to 17-years-old, wearing black clothing and black puffa jackets.

    One of the suspects is described as about 5ft 9ins tall, with "wide-set facial features" and the other is described as slightly taller, about 5ft 10ins tall.

    Det Insp Coates said: "We would also ask for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who noticed anything suspicious, to contact us."

    North Yorkshire's new Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner will remain in her other roles as county and borough councillor until the next election in May 2022, she has confirmed.

    Conservative Zoe Metcalfe said she would not quit North Yorkshire County Council and Harrogate Borough Council in a move which would trigger a by-election, but would begin “standing down” from most of her responsibilities.

    A spokesperson for her office said she "intends to devote herself full time to the role of Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner".

    They added: "She is standing down from – or, as far as possible, arranging substitutes for – her other roles and activities, including any committee and sub-committee responsibilities connected with her roles as an elected member of Harrogate Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council.

    "As she has already made clear, commissioner Metcalfe will be relinquishing her council seats at the next election in 2022 – avoiding the need for by-elections in the meantime."

    Ms Metcalfe is the third Conservative to take on the £74,000-salary role since it was created in 2012, and won with 41,760 of the first and second-preference votes in a by-election last month.

    Sections of a Grade II-listed bridge in West Yorkshire will be taken apart and reconstructed as part of work to reduce flooding in Leeds, it's been revealed.

    The work on Apperley Lane Bridge, which crosses the River Aire, is part of Leeds City Council’s Flood Alleviation Scheme,

    The scheme includes the creation of a flood storage reservoir on an area of rural land between Calverley, Horsforth and Rawdon, as well as banking and the "realignment of the River Aire".

    The work includes new flood walls and embankments, a pumping station and strengthening of Apperley Lane Bridge.

    A Leeds City Council spokesperson said the scheme would "offer flood protection for 1,048 homes and 474 businesses from similar events to the Boxing Day floods in 2015".

    During the work, Apperley Lane Bridge is expected to be closed to traffic between April and September 2022.

    A female shop worker has been assaulted by masked men during a robbery in West Yorkshire, police say.

    Two males wearing balaclavas entered Shillbank Stores in Mirfield at about 17:50 on Monday, according to West Yorkshire Police..

    The suspects assaulted a female worker before leaving on foot with "a significant amount of cash", officers said.

    Anyone who witnessed what happened is being urged to call police.

    New drink spiking test kits will be rolled out across northern Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire following a rise in reports, Humberside Police has said.

    The force says it has carried out several investigations in recent weeks into people having their drinks spiked or being injected with unknown substances.

    The new kits are designed to recognise up to 20 different drugs and can be used up to a day after the suspected incident has occurred, police say.

    Assistant Chief Constable Darren Downs says: "They have proved very successful and we hope their availability will reassure the public that they can spend time in our region’s venues in safety."

    Children living in the north of England face worse health and educational outcomes following the coronavirus pandemic than youngsters elsewhere in the country, a report has warned.

    The research involving more than 40 academics, titled Child of the North, external, found children in the north of England have a 27% chance of living in poverty compared to 20% in the rest of the country.

    Infant mortality and childhood obesity is also higher in the North, the research suggests.

    One of the authors of the report, Professor Kate Pickett, from the University of York, said: "The pandemic has been hardest on those already in poverty and deprivation.

    "And in the North, many of our lockdown restrictions continued for longer than in other places .

    "We now risk there being a generation of children in the North whose life trajectory is put off course."

    In a statement, the Department for Education said to make up for learning lost during the pandemic it was "supporting the most disadvantaged, vulnerable or those with the least time left in education - wherever they live".

    A Bradford MP has criticised the government’s Nationality and Borders Bill as being "anti-refugee and pro-racist".

    Bradford East Labour MP Imran Hussain told BBC Radio Leeds the bill was "fundamentally flawed and means the government will turn their backs on some of the most vulnerable".

    Mr Hussain added: "The bill risks breaching international law and undermines global efforts to support people fleeing war and persecution."

    The government’s new legislation will criminalise people knowingly arriving in the UK without permission – which it hopes will deter people crossing the English Channel in boats.

    Home Secretary Priti Patel has promised the bill will create a "firm but fair" asylum system to allow the UK to "take full control of its borders".

    The Home Office has denied that the bill breaks international law and says it complies with the UK's international obligations, including under the Refugee Convention.

    Roqia left Afghanistan two years ago following an arranged marriage where she faced torture and abuse from her husband’s family.

    She arrived in Yorkshire two months ago after crossing the Channel in a boat. She told BBC Radio Leeds she had no alternative but to make the journey.

    Speaking through a translator, she said she "closed her eyes" and "felt so hopeless" while on the boat.

    A Hull MP will officially receive her damehood in a ceremony at Windsor Castle later.

    Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson was named in the Queen's New Year's Honours two years ago, but the ceremony to award it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her charitable and political service.

    As part of the event, the MP will wear a bespoke outfit made by a local tailor in tribute to their efforts in making PPE for health staff at the height of the Covid pandemic.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a 79-year old cyclist was injured on a road in North Yorkshire.

    The man suffered head and pelvic injuries as a result of being involved in a collision with a grey Renault Clio, according to North Yorkshire Police.

    It happened on York Road, close to the junction with School Lane, in Askham Richard, near York, on Saturday.

    He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he remains in hospital in a stable condition, officers said.

    Police are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who recalls seeing the vehicle or cyclist prior to the collision, to get in touch as soon as possible to assist the investigation. In particular, they are appealing for any dashcam footage.

    Warnings of snow and gale force winds have been issued for Yorkshire ahead of Storm Barra.

    The yellow "be aware" warnings, which are in place until 23:59 today, mean wind may cause delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

    Damage to trees and some short-term loss of power is also possible.

    Heavy snow is also likely to cause travel disruption, especially over higher routes, with blizzards expected in some areas.

    Train operator LNER warned passengers that speed restrictions would be in place for part of its route through the North East, with alterations to a number of services on Tuesday and Wednesday, external.

    The warnings come as about 500 homes remain without power following Storm Arwen, which hit 11 days ago.

    Businesses which illegally dump hazardous materials onto bonfires in Bradford are being warned they will get a knock on their doors after being caught on a new network of CCTV cameras.

    Councillors have been told that an effort to catch fly-tippers during the Bonfire Night period led to cameras capturing a number of "horrendous" images of people throwing waste onto fires, leading to "toxic fumes".

    Officers are currently examining these images and those responsible are being warned they could expect either a hefty fine or to be taken to court.

    The Bradford South Area Committee has been given an update on work done by Neighbourhood Wardens and Environmental Enforcement Officers in the constituency.

    Officers said fly-tipping was one of the most common complaints they received.

    But efforts to tackle the blight had been helped by a £300,000 investment from Bradford Council to tackle fly-tipping. That money has been used to set up dozens of CCTV cameras in fly-tipping hotspots and to secure sites that suffer repeated tipping.

    Environmental services co-ordinator Amjad Ishaq said: “We caught a number of incidents on camera, and we are currently investigating these incidents.

    “There are a number of horrendous images we captured of businesses throwing hazardous materials onto bonfires and releasing toxic fumes."

    An appeal's been launched after a man was "slashed" in an attack outside a supermarket in Halifax, police say.

    The 30-year-old was attacked outside the Aldi supermarket in Pellon Lane at about 17:15 on Friday 3 December, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    A spokesperson for the force said: "A 30-year-old man received minor slash injuries to his chest in the incident and the attacker is believed to have run off towards Raglan Street.

    "The attacker is described as a white male with dark skin and black facial hair, of stocky build and is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s."

    The attacker is thought to have been wearing a green hat, a grey jumper and body warmer and cream trousers, officers add.

    Anyone who recognises the description, or who witnessed the incident, is being asked to contact police.

    Bradford Council wants the views of people who live in the Bolton, Frizinghall and Shipley areas who will be affected by the proposed £3.25m Shipley Fields Park scheme.

    Bradford Beck is a waterway that flows through Bradford and on to the River Aire at Shipley. As it reaches the city centre it runs underground after being built over in the 19th Century.

    The council says its proposal will reduce the risk of flooding caused by a section of the beck on Canal Road which currently runs through an underground concrete tunnel, constricting the water flow.

    A face-to-face meeting about the plans is due to be held in Shipley Fire Station on Wednesday 15 December between 10:00 and 14:00, the authority says.

    There will also be a virtual, online drop-in session on Thursday 6 January at 18:00.
