A North Yorkshire woman says the wait for her autistic brother to be released from a mental health unit four years since he was admitted feels "never-ending".
Elliot hit crisis point with self-harm in 2018 and his family asked for temporary support.
His sister, Beckii (pictured below), was told Elliot would be discharged last year, but a series of delays now means he will not be allowed out until the summer.
Beckii said: "It's the first thing I think of and the last thing at night, wondering is he going to get out.
"I'm just really hoping that it's this year, because he's had enough. He's really homesick and we've had enough really now.
"He doesn't need to be there, he's been fit for discharge since September, so it's just a constant wait for everything else to be ready."
In July 2021, a national charity said the government's failure to reduce the number of autistic people confined to mental health units in England was a "national scandal".
