    Looks like a cathartic moment for Labour's Chris Williamson at his constituency base in Derby's Eagle Market.

    He lost out to Conservative Amanda Solloway in 2015 by the smallest margin in England - just 41 votes.

    The result in High Peak is - to be honest - a bit baffling. Conservatives won six of eight county council seats there a month ago and then lost the Parliamentary seat to Labour on a 14% swing. What happened!?

    Labour's Gloria de Piero said she was "delighted" to be re-elected in Ashfield.

    She said: "We are winning in places we didn't think possible and haven't won for a very long time.

    "It looks like a quite a big miscalculation for Theresa May."

    Her majority of 441 was considerably smaller than in 2015, when it was about 9,000.

    Some voters in Leicester had two votes to cast yesterday - along with the general election they voted to elect a new city councillor in a by-election.

    Labour's Danny Myers won the Castle Ward seat with 4,272 votes.

    So our BBC poll was correct - no political party has won an overall majority.

    All the results are now in across the East Midlands - we have 18 Conservative MPs and 14 Labour.

    The Conservatives gained two seats in Mansfield and North East Derbyshire.

    Labour also gained two seats in Derby North and High Peak.

    Mark Stuart is a senior tutor in politics at the University of Nottingham, he said: "Amber Rudd lost her father recently, what courage to go through this whole process to appear live on television.

    "I think probably that TV debate when she stood in for the Prime Minister saved her seat."

    He said: "This is the largest number of votes that I have ever been given by the people of Leicester East. The largest majority in 30 years.

    "In three days time I celebrate my 30th anniversary in Parliament so after eight elections to be given this kind of boost I'm very grateful to them, very humbled, very honoured."
