    Charnwood Borough Council has received a Silver Award for its support of the armed forces.

    The council was given the award by the armed forces covenant employer scheme which encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same.

    The council signed the armed forces covenant in 2013.

    It recognises that the whole nation has a moral obligation to members of the Armed Forces and their families, and it establishes how they should expect to be treated.

    Police say they're investigating reports a teenage girl was assaulted at a leisure centre in Bingham.

    The force said it was aware video footage was being circulated showing an alleged incident on a tennis court at Bingham Leisure Centre on Wednesday.

    Nottingham Forest have brought back their Robin Hood mascot after a three-year absence, external.

    The legendary character was a prominent fixture at home games from 2007 and 2015.

    The club said his return would "add experience and leadership" to matchdays at the City Ground.

    We've had some more information on the Musa Basjoo banana that has been growing in a Clifton garden.

    Head of glasshouses at Kew Gardens in London, Greg Redwood, said the type of banana was "borderline hardy and fairly common" in the south of the UK and "in favourable positions further north".

    He said the banana wasn't classed as edible and can occasionally grow after mild winters in sheltered areas.

    Firefighters are now damping down at the site of the large fire near Swadlincote this morning.

    It is thought the fire started in a field next to Ravensbourn Limited's plastics site where the blaze took hold in the early hours of this morning, although that is yet to be confirmed.

    The fire service said crews would stay there for the rest of this afternoon and would re-assess the situation at 16.00.

    Ashby Museum's latest exhibition is taking a look at the changing faces of policing.

    It includes significant tales and cases from Leicestershire and stories of police officers who have worked for the force for more than 20 years.

    Carol Walton from Ashby Museum who helped collate the exhibition, said: “There was so much history and material to look at that it was difficult to choose what should be included.

    "However, what we have is a highly interesting look at policing and how it’s evolved, along with some fantastic local stories from bygone years that should keep visitors riveted.”

    Hosepipe bans are in place in the Isle of Man and parts of the Republic of Ireland, but Anglian Water, which covers the east of England, Rutland and parts of Lincolnshire, says water levels in its reservoirs are still looking healthy, despite the long heatwave.

    The company has been measuring supplies in its reservoirs at Alton Water, external in Suffolk, Ardleigh reservoir near Colchester, Covenham in Lincolnshire, Grafham Water, external in Cambridgshire; Hollowell, external, Pitsford Water, external and Ravensthorpe Resevoir, external in Northamptonshire, and Rutland Water, external and says levels are "still good for the time of year".

    Nottingham Crown Court heard today that Carly Tomlinson, 24, from Belper had been travelling at 43mph in a 30mph zone on the two-mile journey to her home from the Marehay Miners Welfare Club when she hit a telegraph pole.

    Sentencing, Judge Gregory Dickinson QC told Tomlinson: "No-one here knows why you drove. You knew that you must have had too much to drink.

    "You killed your own child and your fiance, people that you loved and people that loved you.

    "You will be haunted by this for the rest of your life."

    A gardener in Nottingham has said there are bananas growing on his tree for the first time since he planted it 10 years ago.

    Barry Haywood said the Asian Musa Basjoo variety is a hardy breed that can survive UK winters - however he'd never seen fruit growing until this summer.

    He said it's down to the hot weather we've been having.

    The tree stands at 15ft in his back garden in Tamworth Grove, Clifton.

    Experts say bananas need a sunny growing period of nine to 15 months, with temperatures above 15C (60F), to fruit. The optimum temperature for growth is 27C (81F), according to the Royal Horticultural Society., external

    The fruits then need a further two to four months to ripen.

    Three fire engines raced to Nottingham's City Hospital just after 13:00 after an alarm sounded in its rooftop garden.

    However, the cause turned out to be a fire in a cigarette bin which was extinguished moments before firefighters arrived.

    A spokeswoman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the incident had been resolved by 13:23.

    Carly Tomlinson, of Nottingham Road, Belper, has been sentenced to two years in prison for causing death by careless driving while unfit through drink.

    Her fiance, James Watson, and six-year-old daughter, Ruby Watson, died in the crash on 30 April last year.

    The judge said she will serve half of her sentence before being released on licensed supervision.

    CCTV footage has been released showing a vandal ripping commemorative poppies from a lamp-post in Stapleford.

    Several poppies, put up by volunteers last month to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One, were removed and torn up.

    Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed a man was shot in the leg, external in Kirkby-in-Ashfield last night.

    The force said the 30-year-old suffered non life-threatening injuries to his thigh in the shooting, which happened in Southwell Close at about 21:50.

    They are now appealing for information on two men dressed in dark clothing who were seen fleeing the area.

    Extra officers have also been deployed in the area to provide reassurance to residents.

    Extra police patrols will be carried out in Chaddesden tonight after a group of about 20 young people caused trouble in the suburb last night, external.

    Derbyshire Police said a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were arrested following reports the group were fighting, trying to light fires and threatening shopkeepers.

    A dispersal order has been put in place in and around Sussex Circus, giving police more power to break up groups if they suspect they may be about to cause disruption.
