  11. Man abused as boy 'still being punished'published at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2019

    Jeremy Ball
Social affairs correspondent, BBC East Midlands Today

A victim of historical abuse in Nottinghamshire's children's homes has told us how he was branded a "male prostitute", then wrongly jailed for sex offences.

He was only fifteen when he was caught and then persuaded to admit committing crimes against several grown men. The men had paid him for sex but he says at the time he "didn't realise [he] was being abused".

The man, who we're calling Tony, gave evidence to the child sex abuse inquiry.

He told the BBC he had also been sexually abused by an older boy at the age of 11 in his dormitory and would "cry himself to sleep".

    Blurred man

His convictions have now been overturned, but he says he's still being punished. His records mistakenly said he served time for abusing children and that led to other unsubstantiated complaints and he is now facing restrictions around children.

A group that helps survivors of the abuse, Nottingham CSA Survivors, said he is far from alone and a significant number of children in care were prostituted.

"The abuse as a child has got no comparison to the abuse since 2010," Tony added. "And I'm questioning myself - would I be better off dead?"

  17. University confirms ex-Malaysian PM's degreepublished at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2019

    David Pittam
    BBC News Online

The University of Nottingham confirmed it gave a degree to a scandal hit ex-Malaysian Prime Minister, despite rumours in local press and social media that he had never actually finished his course.

According to its records, Najib Razak, who was toppled in 2018, did indeed graduate with a BA Hons in industrial economics in 1974.

But his British degree might be the least of Mr Razak's worries - he is currently facing trial over corruption after billions disappeared from a state fund meant to help the people of the South East Asian country.

    He denies the charges.
