A burst water main has caused flooding at a new development at Fosse Park this morning and closed three Leicestershire schools.

Severn Trent Water said the issue with the pipe on Narborough Road was first reported shortly after 04:00 and engineers are at the scene to carry out repairs.

Many properties in the LE2, LE3, LE8 and LE19 areas are completely without water or experiencing lower pressure this morning.

Blaby Stokes Primary School, Badgerbrook Primary School and Fullhurst Community College said they had closed to pupils due to having no water supply.

"It is completely underwater from Next right through to the sports shop at the opposite end of the development."

She said shops in the old Fosse Park area were also affected.

Severn Trent said: "Our team is continuing to work in the area to get the burst repaired as quickly as possible.

"We are currently moving water around our network to ensure customers remain on supply throughout."
