Leicestershire County Council said sites in Bottesford and Shepshed would close from 18:00 on Friday "until further notice", while the one in Somerby will be closed from Monday for pre-planned improvements to be carried out.

A site in Whetstone, which had been open seven days a week, will go back to being open five days a week from 23 August.

Councillor Blake Pain, cabinet member for waste disposal, said: "We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these closures will cause."

  16. Gynaecologist under review no longer licensed to practisepublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 13 August 2021

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

A former surgeon under investigation for potentially causing harm to dozens of women is no longer legally allowed to practise medicine in the UK.

Daniel Hay worked across the Midlands as a consultant gynaecologist, including in Derby, before retiring in 2020.

The 56-year-old had retained his right to work as a medical professional but is now listed as "registered without a licence to practise" on the medical register.

The General Medical Council (GMC) said the removal of Mr Hay's licence would not impact its investigation, that could see him taken off the register altogether.

    Royal Derby Hospital

He also remains under review by the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust and NHS England.

The trust has found "major concern" that 50 women "are likely to have been warned", with an interim report identifying "some concern" over a further 69.

Mr Hay, speaking through the Medical Defence Union - which is acting on his behalf - said he did not wish to expand on his previous comments.

He has previously apologised to the women affected by the NHS investigation and said he was co-operating with it.

Claire Cooper, senior associate of the Freeths Derby medical negligence team, said: "Whilst this does not offer comfort to those women who have already been treated, we are relieved that these strict measures will avoid future harm to any more women."

  20. Most Nottinghamshire Covid patients in 30s and 40s - CCGpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 13 August 2021

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

More than 100 people are being treated for Covid-19 in Nottinghamshire's hospitals - the majority of which are now in their 30s and 40s, the local CCG has said.

NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group said there had been a major shift in the age of those presenting as seriously ill at hospital.

This also includes pregnant women who are susceptible to the Delta variant.

Amanda Sullivan, accountable officer for the CCG, spoke at an outbreak and control engagement board meeting on Friday.

"The vast majority had not been vaccinated at all," she said. "The chances of becoming seriously ill are very strongly linked with if you haven't had a vaccine. That is clear.

"The age profile has changed. The average age in hospital are people in their 30s and 40s who have not been vaccinated. We are not seeing that older profile. It is a very different profile to previously."

    QMC

From 10 August, 131 people were in hospital with Covid-19 compared to 137 the week before. Of these 22 need ventilation.

It comes as the CCG encouraged 16 to 17-year-olds to get their vaccinations from today.

Health officials have set up four vaccine hubs, enabling teenagers to walk in for their jabs at the Queen's Medical Centre, Forest Recreation Ground, Mansfield's former Wilkes store and King's Mill Hospital.

The sites will be open from 08:00/08:30 until 19:30/20:00 over the weekend and the coming week.
