    Officers investigating the theft of three dogs from a kennels in Spondon, Derby, have appealed for help tracing a car seen in the area at the time.

    Derbyshire Police said the dark-coloured car with foreign number plates - possibly a Hyundai Tucson, Santa Fe or Honda CRV - was caught on CCTV at Asda in Spondon at about 18:00 on Tuesday 3 August.

    It has appealed for anyone who saw this car in the area to get in touch.

    The dogs - two cockapoos named Elvis and Tony, and a cocker spaniel called Remi - were taken from Brookfield Farm, in West Road at some time between 19:00 that day and 07:00 the following day.

    Det Sgt Scott McDermott said: “Thank you to all those people who have so far come forward. We are now particularly keen to trace the driver of this car, and anyone else in the area as they may have further information which could help with our inquiries.

    “This is understandably a very distressing time for the dog’s owners and those who cared for them, who are anxious to get them back to their loving homes.”

    An 18-year-old student, who is registered blind, said he was "relieved" and "elated" when he got the grades to study at Oxford University.

    Declan Webster achieved A*s in history, English literature and sociology at Saint Benedict Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derby and is set to study history in September.

    "I’m so pleased, it’s been such a long road to get here," he said.

    "I've always wanted to go to Oxford as I want to go into politics. It always seemed like a far off dream but I thought I would apply and see what happens.

    "Then the pandemic hit and there was a lot of home schooling. It was tough when I was suddenly having to learn on my own at home."

    Head teacher Kevin Gritton said: "We are very proud of our sixth form students who have achieved an outstanding set of results despite all of the challenges of the past 18 months."

    A young girl has been left with "significant injuries" after she was hit by an e-scooter.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the girl, aged five, suffered a serious leg injury and a head wound in the collision in Foxhill Road West, Carlton just after 16:20 yesterday.

    She remains in hospital but her injuries are not life-threatening.

    A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drugs and driving without insurance. He remains in police custody.

    The force said the privately-owned scooter, which was not permitted to be ridden on the road, has been seized.

    Sgt Elizabeth Johnson said: "This was a serious collision that has left a young girl in hospital with some very significant injuries."

    Privately-owned e-scooters can only be ridden on private land with the permission of the landowner. It is illegal to ride them on public roads, cycle lanes or pavements.

    In Nottingham, only the bright yellow e-scooters leased from the city council can be legally ridden in public spaces.

    A mother and son have achieved the grades they need to go to university, and they will both be on the same course.

    Bilal Batous, 18, and his mum, Manal Raweah, picked up their grades today and are starting at Nottingham Trent University to study biomedical sciences.

    "I think we will make a great team and we can help each other in the areas we struggle with," said Bilal.

    "We have achieved what we have always aimed for."

    Mrs Raweah was a lab technician in Syria before the bombing began and said she was looking forward to the "challenges" of university life.

    The family were resettled in the UK as Syrian refugees five years ago.

    "It is the first time we have experienced anything like this so it will be challenging but it will be fun," added Bilal.

    "I can't wait to see ourselves succeeding together and I want to see my mum smiling and I think it will be good."

    A burst water main in Nottinghamshire sent a huge jet of water into the air this morning.

    Residents believe it is the second time in a week the pipe has ruptured on Station Road in Keyworth.

    Severn Trent said it had managed to repair it, adding the company is moving water slowly through the pipes to ensure it does not burst again.

    It said water supply issues were affecting LE12, LE11, NG12 and NG14 postcodes.

    The water firm apologised and said it hoped to have everyone back on supply by 12:00.
