The operator of an e-scooter scheme in Nottingham has said users will be charged £7.50 if vehicles are not returned to one of the parking bays provided.
Wind warned users of its e-scooter app on Monday "when parking bays are available in the city where the scooter rental takes place, you are required to return and park the scooter in one of the parking bays".
Otherwise, users would incur the additional charge.
Nottingham is one of a number of cities in the UK that is trialling the use of e-scooters as part of a government-approved scheme.
Rachael Pereira, who is visually impaired, previously told the BBC more needed to be done to monitor the city's trial.
She said she frequently bumped into e-scooters and had fallen over one left outside a shop in the middle of the pavement.
The disturbances came in the wake of the 2011 London riots.

Derbyshire-based Edale Mountain Rescue Team said it received a call from police on Thursday that the woman and her dog were in the Fox Hagg area above Rivelin Reservoir in South Yorkshire.
Jess the Labrador was unable to walk, and because of the location and her weight, her owner was unable to carry her back to the road.
The rescue team wrapped Jess in a casualty bag and strapped her on to a stretcher before she was carried back to the road.
