    One of the engineering companies behind Boston's £100m flood barrier has revealed how it modelled the effect of the project on river traffic.

    Several groups, including Boston-based fishermen, have voiced concern about the barrier's location and its effect on their vessels.

    But specialist waterway engineer HR Wallingford has revealed this afternoon how it modelled a wide range of craft including dredgers, pleasure cruisers and fishing boats with computer technology.

    The results of their work have been used to design the barrier, with work due to begin next month.

    It's hoped the barrier will protect up to 14,000 homes by 2019.

    A Lincoln nightclub has played host to the police as part of an anti-drugs operation which will run over the next few months.

    Operation Waiver started at Circle nightclub on Silver Street on Saturday night, with all customers having their hands swabbed and tested by a specialist machine (pictured below).

    Police said the feedback from clubbers was "positive" and the nightclub management were keen to be involved to ensure the safety of their customers.

    Police have issued this CCTV picture of a man they want to speak to over the theft of alcohol from a Lincolnshire shop.

    It happened in the Co-op in Dunholme, near Lincoln, last Tuesday and officers believe this man with a pushchair may be able to help with their inquiries.

    The offender's described as 6ft tall, in his mid-30s, and with a fair coloured beard.

    Anyone with information about the theft is being asked to contact police.

    Nearly £500,000 of National Lottery cash has been given to Boston Women's Aid.

    The money will be used to support victims of domestic abuse in the town, the charity says.

    Staff describe the funding as a "real game-changer", meaning they will be now able to work with children and young people "to help them understand what a healthy relationship means".

    Sarah Smith, Boston Women's Aid operations manager, adds that many people aren't aware that one third of domestic abuse victims are male:

    There are reports of slow traffic due to an accident on the A46 Lincoln bypass this afternoon.

    It's thought a lorry and a car were involved on the southbound carriageway, close to the Carholme roundabout, which is the junction with the A57.

    The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the tidal Trent in Lincolnshire, external between 07:00 and 19:00 on Thursday.

    The agency says it's because of high tides which are coinciding with a "positive surge and large waves along the east coast".

    Those in the affected area are advised to be ready and watch for updates this evening.

    Grimsby has been awarded Heritage Action Zone status to revive its historic docks and town centre.

    It'll be a five-year scheme to bring neglected buildings back into use and it's hoped it will help stimulate the town's economy.

    The Greater Grimsby Heritage Action Zone is being led by North East Lincolnshire Council, working with Associated British Ports, to transform the Kasbah (pictured) which is now a Conservation Area.

    The Heritage Action Zone is at the heart of North East Lincolnshire Council's plans for regeneration in Grimsby and will contribute to the Greater Grimsby Town Deal.

    Almost 40 extra trains will run to Lincoln at the weekend for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who flock to the city for the annual Christmas market.

    The company says it will also add extra carriages to its usual services to help ease the strain.

    The changing climate is affecting the type of birds coming to Lincolnshire, according to a new report published by the RSPB.

    The State of the UK's Birds report says while some species will benefit, others won't be able to cope with changes in temperature and increased ferocity in storms.

    Experts at the RSPB's reserve at Frampton Marsh, near Boston, say it's already having an effect on some well-known species.
