    Visitors to the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire coast are being urged to take extra care over the Easter holidays.

    The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) is advising people to respect the water and and remember sea temperatures are still very cold.

    Advice includes checking weather and tide conditions and carrying a means for calling for help should something go wrong.

    The organisation is also warning that lifeguard season begins later in the spring and that beaches currently aren't manned.

    RNLI lifesavers assisted 154 people in Yorkshire and 104 people in Lincolnshire last year.

    People are being urged not to call the Coastguard if they see any seals on beaches.

    The agency says it's getting a lot of calls about the seals, but in almost all cases the seals are simply resting and should be left alone.

    Coastguard officials say if a seal's genuinely injured, call the RSPCA.

    Villages outside Lincoln will be included in the new community lottery for good causes in the city.

    The Lincoln Community Lottery is open to people living up to six miles away from the city centre.

    City of Lincoln council's executive approved the extension at a meeting yesterday.

    It said that up to £20,000 could be raised for community groups within the first year of the lottery.

    Players get to choose one deserving cause per ticket from an online list.

    Half of the money from the ticket will go to the selected cause, with a further 10% to a central pot allocated by the city council.

    Tickets will cost £1 each and weekly prizes in the online-only lottery will range from £25 to £25,000.

    One man has been rescued from a fire at a property in Scunthorpe.

    Twenty firefighters were sent to the scene on Cole Street at 08:19 this morning.

    Crews rescued the man from the first floor window of the property and he was treated by paramedics.

    There are no further details at the moment.

    Patients and clinicians are coming together to drive improvement in cancer services and treatment in the county.

    The Cancer Fighters - a singing group of women from Lincolnshire who have all been affected by cancer - will be special guests with members talking about their own stories.

    There's been more reaction to the news that Thames Ambulance Service (TASL) has been stripped of its patient transport contract in North Lincolnshire.

    The move comes after months of criticism, with patients raising concerns about frequent delays or ambulances not arriving at all.

    TASL also runs non-urgent transport for Hull and Lincolnshire.

    The NHS North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) says it now intends "to commission a new service".

    Thames Ambulance Service says it's "disappointed" with the decision and says improvements were being made.

    Poems and positive messages will be played from speakers on the Humber Bridge today in a bid to raise awareness of mental health issues.

    Health bosses are looking for a new company to take patients to and from hospital in North Lincolnshire after Thames Ambulance Service was stripped of its contract to provide non-emergency patient transport.

    The move has come after months of criticism, with patients raising concerns about frequent delays or ambulances not arriving at all.

    Thames Ambulance Service was ordered to make improvements to its service following an inspection by health watchdog the Care Quality Commission.

    Thames Ambulance says it's disappointed with the decision and improvements were being made.

    The firm also has contracts to provide patient transport service in other parts of Lincolnshire and Hull.

    A cancer conference taking place in Lincolnshire later, external could lead to "drastically improved" care for patients, it's being claimed.

    The summit is taking place in Woodhall Spa and will bring together more than 50 doctors with patients to focus on ways to improve the county's care.

    The organisers say it's an opportunity to understand the latest treatments, how they encourage people to attend screenings and how they support people to live with and beyond cancer.
