Artefacts uncovered during relief road projectpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 26 March 2018
Fragments of Roman and Iron Age pottery, carved stone objects and Mesolithic flints have all been unearthed during archaeology work on Grantham's Southern Relief Road.
A team has been working there since the start of the year before construction work can begin in earnest on the project.
It'll cost in the region of £81m and will link the A52 at Somerby Hill to the A1.
Quote MessageA majority of the finds we’ve excavated so far date back to Roman and Iron Age times, predating the development of Grantham as a settlement. In fact, a Roman road, called Salters Way, passes a short distance to the south of where we are working"
