    Fragments of Roman and Iron Age pottery, carved stone objects and Mesolithic flints have all been unearthed during archaeology work on Grantham's Southern Relief Road.

    A team has been working there since the start of the year before construction work can begin in earnest on the project.

    It'll cost in the region of £81m and will link the A52 at Somerby Hill to the A1.

    Scunthorpe United chairman Peter Swann has confirmed to the BBC their interest in both Steve McLaren and Steve Cotterill as possible replacements for Graham Alexander.

    The League One play-off hopefuls Scunthorpe sacked manager Graham Alexander (below) over the weekend after eight games without a win.

    The Iron's chairman says he will be looking to talk to both Steve Cotterill and Steve McLaren about the job.

    Cotterill (below left), was most recently in charge at Championship side Birmingham City, who sacked him at the beginning of March. McLaren (below right), meanwhile, has recently been coaching in Israel, but he left Maccabi Tel Aviv just before the new year.

    Boston Boxer Callum Johnson seized the British light-heavyweight title over the weekend after beating his opponent in the first round.

    Fighting at the 02 in London, Johnson took the title from Frank Buglioni after the referee intervened to stop the match.

    It was quite the comeback for Johnson, who'd been sidelined with an injury after winning the Commonwealth title 18 months ago.

  5. Appeal to find building's owner after suspicious blazepublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 26 March 2018

    Humberside Police are trying to find the owner of a derelict building in Grimsby which they believe was subject to an arson attack.

    Firecrews and police officers attended the fire at the former "Funland" building on Cleethorpes Road in the early hours of Saturday.

    Humberside Police said the fire was quickly put out and no-one was hurt but they would like to find out who owns the building.

    This time next week you'll be allowed an hour of free parking in Gainsborough.

    The move is being introduced by West Lindsey District Council as a way to encourage more visitors and shoppers to the town centre.

    However, drivers will still need to collect a ticket from the machine and put it in their car.

    The Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling, announced an extra £100m is to be shared among councils in England to fund repairs to roads damaged in recent storms.

    It comes in the wake of Storm Emma and the "Beast from the East" cold snap.

    A charity in Leicester that has been sending children on holiday to the Lincolnshire coast for more than 100 years said it is trialling a new destination.

    The Leicester Children's Holiday Centre is selling off its accommodation at Mablethorpe because it said it has become too expensive to run.

    The charity said: "After sending around 60,000 children away on holiday since 1898, trustees have decided it is time to make changes so they can continue to offer relevant holidays for 21st Century children."

    The charity is trying out an adventure holiday centre near Sheringham on the Norfolk coast instead.

    All lane closures and speed restrictions have been lifted on the A17 Sleaford Bypass - a month ahead of schedule.

    The work was expected to go on until the end of April - but county council workers managed to finish early - to reduce disruption.

    Drainage improvements will continue on the road - which will be finished next month.

    Humberside firefighters can no longer board ships to tackle fires because their training certificates have run out.

    In a bid to save money due to cutbacks, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency has stopped providing the vital helicopter winch training fire crews need.

    Humberside's chief fire officer Chris Blacksell is due to meet the police and fire service minister later to try to resolve the issue.

    Associated British Ports says the situation needs to be dealt with, urgently.

    A report out today say there are huge gaps between the most disadvantaged children in the north and those in London.

    Growing Up North says they are more likely to go to a poor school and to leave education early.

    It calls for secondary schools in the most deprived areas of the north to be improved and for children to be made a priority in the Northern Powerhouse project.

    A man's suffered head injuries after being attacked in Scunthorpe at the weekend.

    Officers were called to Old Brumby Street at about 04:00 after reports a pedestrian had punched the windscreen of a parked taxi.

    Humberside Police says two men who had ordered the taxi assaulted the man before leaving the scene.

    Mount Pleasant Windmill, in Kirton in Lindsey, had its cap and sails almost entirely destroyed by "exceptional winds" in November 2015.
