1. Work begins on footbridge in Lincolnpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 27 April 2018

    Preliminary work's begun on a new footbridge over Brayford Wharf in Lincoln.

    The plans, which were first mooted more than five years ago, have been controversial and were intially turned down by the City of Lincoln Council.

    Network Rail says it's making progress on the footbridge, which will offer pedestrians a safe route with no need to wait at the level crossing barriers.

    The City of Lincoln Council initially agreed to the plans as long as they included a lift.

    Network Rail says there are no plans for a lift at the moment, but the design includes the possibility of building one in the future.

  2. Highways improvements planned for Grantham town centrepublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 27 April 2018

    Three projects to improve roads in Grantham are set to take place this summer.

    Work will begin on reconstructing the London Road-Wharf Road junction on Sunday 29 July, the junction will be closed throughout the project, which should finish on Friday 3 August.

    The second project will replace the traffic lights at the junction of London Road and Bridge End Road. This project is expected to last four weeks.

    Avenue Road and Stonebridge Road will be reconstructed. The carriageway between the B1174 St Peter's Hill and Sandon Road will be rebuilt, while the footpath between Castlegate and Welham Street will be resurfaced and new kerbing installed.

    Work will take place during the daytime under a road closure, with diversion routes in place.

Helen contemplates the fading of memories with a Greek artist and choreographer, resident in Lincoln, who makes photographs using flower emulsions. There's a beekeeper who trains new recruits and packs her garden with as many flowers as she can to provide the bees with sustenance; a former IT manager turned English flower-grower and the only elderflower farmers in the UK.

    Humberside Police says it is working with the club in the build-up to the game, to prevent a repeat of the disorder seen at the Mariners' match with Port Vale in March.

    Two men who were arrested in connection with a pitch invasion during the match on Saturday 10 March have been banned from attending the game.

    The force says additional officers will be on duty in and around Blundell Park tomorrow.

    One in three patients in Lincolnshire are turning to alternative NHS services, including A&E, when they can't get a GP appointment.

    A survey, external of more than 1,000 patients was carried out by Healthwatch Lincolnshire.

    Patients, it said, can wait three weeks or more for a non-urgent appointment.

    However it suggests that problems accessing appointments are not as widespread as thought, but access to GP appointments in challenging on the East Coast.

    The Lincolnshire East CCG which commissions GP services in that part of the county says eleven practices are coming together to work out of Louth Hospital and provide appointments on evenings and weekends.

    More on the news that West Yorkshire-based discount retailer Poundworld is looking at closing about 100 of its 355 stores, putting up to 1,500 jobs at risk.

    Poundworld is expected to announce the terms of the Company Voluntary Arrangement next month and As well as closing stores it would try to get agreement from landlords to reduce rents.

    The chain imports a lot of its stock and is having to pay more for it because of the fall in the value of the pound.

    However, unlike most retailers Poundworld cannot pass on its cost increases to customers because its business model means it sells everything for a pound.

    Poundworld employs about 5,500 staff and has its headquarters in West Yorkshire.

    The company was formed in 2004, but it says it can trace its origins "back to 1974 and a market stall in Wakefield, West Yorkshire".

    The company also has seven shops in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

    West Yorkshire discount retailer Poundworld is looking at closing about 100 of its 355 stores, putting up to 1,500 jobs at risk.

    The company is also considering an insolvency process called a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

    Like many retailers Poundworld has been hit by falling consumer confidence, rising overheads and the weaker pound.

    Poundworld- based in Wakefield - is owned by private equity firm TPG Capital, which also owns restaurant chain Prezzo whose landlords agreed to a CVA last month.

    The company also has seven shops in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.
