  2. Lincolnshire Police crack down on 'Fatal 4'published at 08:00 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

Lincolnshire Police offficers are to actively target drivers in the county who commit what the force has dubbed the "Fatal 4, external".

Speeding, drink- and drug-driving, using mobile phones and not wearing seatbelts are the main causes of severe injuries or death on the county's roads.

There were more than 3,300 crashes last year leading to 49 deaths and more than 2,500 injuries.

Sgt Mike Alford, who's based in Spalding, says these incidents cost millions of pounds in police resources, and with reduced budgets and limited resources it's now more important than ever to prioritise incidents that present the greatest threat to people in Lincolnshire.

Over the next nine months, officers will take a zero tolerance approach to the "Fatal 4" in an attempt to reduce the numbers of crashes on our county's roads, the force says.

The sad reality is that in Lincolnshire you are more likely to be involved and injured in a road traffic collision than you are to be a victim of serious crime."
