    A donkey which had got itself stuck in the mud in Grimsby has been freed by fire crews.

    The incident happened near Louth Road yesterday morning, with fire crews using a specialist kit to cut away vegetation and help remove the donkey.

    The donkey was sedated by a vet while the rescue took place and it's not believed to have suffered any injuries.

    Slade, whose managerial career has included spells at Coventry and Cardiff, was sacked by Grimsby in February following a run of 12 games without a win. He's the bookies' current favourite at 2/1 on.

    Nine 103-year-old chocolate bars are to go under the hammer in an antiques auction in Scunthorpe next week, after being discovered among the mementos of a World War I soldier.

    The Colonies Gift Tins were sent to troops serving in the trenches in France at Christmas 1914.

    Cadbury made the chocolate bars and the tin was made by Barringer Wallis & Manners of Mansfield, one of the world's leading manufacturers of decorative tinware.

    The tin is among a collection of items which belonged to a Leicestershire Regiment soldier called Richard Bullimore.

    The Lincolnshire-based Red Arrows will take part in their first air show of the season this weekend.

    The world famous aerobatics team will perform at the Torbay Air show in Devon on Saturday and Sunday.

    They're back at their base in Scampton after completing their pre-season training in Greece earlier this month.

    The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight from RAF Coningsby are also due to take part in the Torbay show.

    The NHS is failing the people of Grantham, according to the leader of Lincolnshire County Council.

    Martin Hill's comment comes as a public consultation begins on the future of the out of hours minor injuries service, external at the town's hospital.

    Health managers say it's not financially viable to keep it running as only 65 patients used it in 2017.

    A 66-year old woman has died following a collision on the A18 at Barnetby Top this morning.

    A red Mazda collided with a black Volkswagen Transporter at 08:45.

    The woman, who was driving the Mazda, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

    Her family are being supported by specialist officers.

    The man driving the Volkswagen suffered minor injuries.

    Some traders at Lincoln Christmas Market have said they won't return despite a decision to freeze the price they pay to attend this year.

    While offering the freeze to previous traders, councillors have agreed newcomers will have to pay 8% more.

    It follows the cancellation of the final day of the market last year due to a weather warning of heavy snow, which never materialised.

    Mark Brewer, vice president of the FFN which sells gluhwein at the market, says traders would have wanted a bigger discount, as they lost a day of trade last year.

    He said the price freeze might attract some back, but not all of them.

    The changes resulted in a lack of drivers, cancelled services and furious commuters and problems have continued on a daily basis.

    The statement says they are working as quickly as they can to improve rail services and encourage people to apply for Delay Repay compensation.

    People in Lincoln are being encouraged to donate money to a fund for the homeless, rather than giving money direct to people begging on the city's streets.

    Organisations from across Lincoln have set up the campaign named ‘Being asked for change is about more than just a few coins’.

    It's being led by Lincoln BIG, external and chief executive Matt Corrigan said the scheme will mean money donated will be used to "help a person who is genuinely homeless in a meaningful way".

    Surveys suggest around 50% of people who present as homeless actually have a home and are asking for money to support other complex issues, such as addiction.

    Today it's starting to sell off its stock ahead of being transformed into a coffee bar.

    Keith Gosling, a partner in the business, said everything has to come to an end eventually.

    He added it would be sad to say goodbye to the customers who are "more like friends than customers".
