    Police say they're growing concerned for the safety of a woman who's been missing from her Lincolnshire home since last Thursday.

    Natalie Flannagan, who's 24, was last seen in Scotter, north of Gainsborough, and was wearing a black jacket with white writing on the front and blue jeans.

    Police believe she may be in the Scunthorpe area.

    A review of a controversial decision to switch off thousands of streetlights in Lincolnshire is to be examined by the county's decision makers, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    A meeting of Lincolnshire County Council's ruling executive committee will look at the report on Tuesday.

    It was commissioned after the authority received thousands of complaints when half the county's 68,000 streetlights were switched off.

    The report suggests the police keep a record of areas where crime and road safety is affected.

    It also recommends allowing parish councils to be given the opportunity to pay for lights to be turned back on in their communities.

    Police and other emergency services will be out in force in part of Lincoln city centre tonight as part of an exercise to test their response to a civil emergency.

    Roads will be closed in the Monks Road area of the city.

    Officers are keen to stress it is part of a general training programme and is "not in response to any specific intelligence or threat".

    The exercise at the Lincoln College buildings on Monks Road will begin around 20:00 and should conclude around 04:00.

    Police say they will release more details about the exercise tomorrow.

    Lincoln City have received multiple bids from League One clubs for midfielder Alex Woodyard, according to sources close to the club.

    All have been rejected as they have not reached the release clause in Woodyard's contract.

    Woodyard has been a key player for the Imps under Danny Cowley, playing more than 100 times in two seasons.

  7. Explorer's exploits highlighted in Spilsby tourism bidpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    A Lincolnshire market town is capitalising on its links with the Arctic explorer Sir John Franklin in a bid to try and attract more visitors.

    A walking trail is being created in the Spilsby area, where Franklin was born and grew up.

    It's part of moves to make the Lincolnshire Wolds more of a tourist attraction.

    Franklin became world famous for his attempts to discover the northwest passage in the Canadian arctic.

    He and his crew disappeared on one of their expeditions in 1845.

    Since then, there have been several attempts to locate his ships.

    This group of pupils have been busy creating a garden for cancer patients to enjoy during their treatment.

    Staff at Lincoln County Hospital asked pupils from St Giles Primary Academy to create the new garden.

    Members of the school’s eco council gave up their play times to raise more than £140 and then got stuck in to create the oasis of peace.

    Sightings of a rare bird have caused a stir among ornithologists who are flocking to a Lincolnshire nature reserve to catch a glimpse.

    The ruffs, named after their plumage and brightly coloured head tufts, are at RSPB Frampton Marsh nature reserve, near Boston.

    Experts at the site say they're easy to spot with a pair of binoculars.

    New efforts to tackle litter on Skegness beach have worked, according to council officials and bank holiday visitors.

    The three-day weekend earlier in the month saw overflowing bins and rubbish left on the beach, leading to complaints.

    But yesterday the local council put out extra bins and a business group handed out degradable plastic rubbish bags for visitors.

    Fire crews and the coastguard were called out yesterday after a woman became stranded on a mudbank near Boston.

    A specialist fire and rescue team was called out to Shore Road in Freiston at about 17:30.

    A police drone (which took the picture above) was also used to assist the emergency services.

    The woman's not believed to have been injured.

    Work's under way at Lincolnshire's hospitals to make them safer following last year's Grenfell Tower fire tragedy.

    Hospital managers say projects worth £45m have been launched as a result of lessons learned from the fire in London in which at least 58 people died.

    New fire doors, alarm systems, sprinklers and lighting are just some of the improvements being made at Boston Pilgrim Hospital (above), Grantham Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital.

    Staff are also undergoing specialist training to be more effective during incidents.
