Lincoln-born Warrant Officer Nathan Hunt protected Prince Harry as part of a desert reconnaissance unit in Helmand province in 2008, and was later mentioned in dispatches.

His wife, who spoke in the inquest said, "I do believe Nathan wanted to end the nightmares and decided to end his life that night."

The hearing, at Lincoln's Cathedral Centre, concluded that Nathan John Hunt did "as a result of putting a ligature round his neck".

Colleagues told a coroner WO Hunt was not properly qualified to clear improvised explosive devices and suffered post traumatic stress disorder after his tours of duty.
