    Road safety campaigners say reducing speed limits isn't the way to make Lincolnshire's roads safer.

    A new report for the Department for Transport, external suggests a 5% cut in speed limits would reduce road deaths, especially in rural areas.

    But road campaigners say it could have the opposite effect.

    Lorry driver Scott told the BBC "it would make it worse" on roads like the A15 north of Lincoln.

    "Driving at 50 all the way down here you're going to have a lot more people overtaking on bends and brows of hills," he said.

    "The only way to solve the problem down here is to dual carriageway it the whole way."

    Police advice has led to the kick-offs for the Grimsby Town v Lincoln City's matches being brought forward.

    The two local derbies, which happen on Saturday 18 August and Saturday 19 January will now kick off at 13:00.

    There have been violence at clashes between the two local teams in the past.

    Members of a green-fingered group behind floral displays in Boston say they're "deeply saddened" after one of their newest planters was vandalised and set alight.

    Boston in Bloom, whose efforts will be judged for a national competition next week, says the new planters were installed only a few weeks ago in the town's market place.

    Following the vandalism, they've now had to be replaced with flowers from another of the three-tiered planters around the market square (pictured below).

    A doctor's surgery in Saxilby has become one of a growing number of practices in Lincolnshire to use technology to reduce missed appointments.

    The Trent Valley Surgery is using a simple text system to make cancellations simpler for its patients.

    Paula Bacon, practice manager at the surgery, says it's saving a lot of time for patients.

    "It's helpful to us and I know why other surgeries are using it, because they have quite high rates of 'Did Not Attends'. That's one of the reasons we've done it.

    Government plans to give British fishermen a greater share of the fishing stock when we leave the EU can't come soon enough, according to the Conservative MP for Cleethorpes.

    The comments, by Martin Vickers MP, come after the environment secretary Michael Gove said the UK would be in the "driving seat" in quota negotiations once the UK leaves the EU's Common Fisheries Policy.

    Mr Gove told the BBC that from 2021 the UK would control fishing access to a 200 nautical mile "exclusive economic zone" around its coastline.

    Managing Britain's waters will ensure the country gets a fairer share of fishing opportunities, according to Mr Vickers.

    Claims in the national papers of a looming "crisp crisis" have been greatly exaggerated, according to farming organisations.

    The reports claim North Lincolnshire crisp maker, Pipers, which is based in Elsham, near Brigg, is concerned about having enough potatoes after bad weather earlier this year.

    According to the Daily Star, external, the so-called "Beast from the East" has left Britain with a shortage of potatoes.

    Meanwhile, in the Sunday Times, external, the boss of Pipers spoke of a possible "crisp crisis".

    However, some farming organisations don't agree.

    The NFU and AHDB Potatoes have told the BBC a surplus from last year, together with irrigation, means our potato crop is safe.

    But the crisps could be smaller as there's been less growing time this year.

    Pipers has been unavailable for further comment.

    Nearly 5,000 are taking part in the year-long pilot across the district.

    The scheme, which converts waste into green energy, could be rolled out to other areas if successful.

    Police have appealed for witnesses to an assault on a man in his 70s in June.

    The man was accused by a woman of deliberately bumping into her outside Argos on Lincoln High Street on 16 June at about 14:00.

    The woman, who had a pushchair with two children in it, then hit the man.

    He was left with a split lip and black eye.

    His wife was with him and the woman also assaulted her.

    This woman was believed to be wearing a bright orange top.

    Lincolnshire Police have asked anyone who saw the incident to contact them.

    More than 25 tonnes of food waste has been collected from homes in the first month of a recycling trial.

    The scheme, which converts waste into green energy, could be rolled out to other areas if successful.

    Nearly 5,000 homes are taking part in the trial across the district.

    The government has pledged to urgently investigate why a man who was held as a slave for 26 years in Lincolnshire is being fined for a crime he was forced to commit by his captors.

    Eleven members of the Rooney family were jailed last year for almost 60 years for modern slavery offences.

    The man in question pleaded guilty to being in a disused nightclub in Leeds where he was found stripping metal.

    Other victims of the Rooney family had similar convictions for theft quashed, but this man, who suffers from learning difficulties, now faces a new challenge to clear his name.

    A mysterious 400-year-old object has been discovered in one of the towers of Lincoln Cathedral.

    It's thought it might be a "Clock Jack" - a wooden knight about 3ft tall which is believed to have once been a part of a clock at the cathedral.

    Fern Dawson, the cathedral's collections and engagement officer, found the mystery item during an audit.

    After reading up on what it might be, she stumbled upon an image captioned "Clock Jack or striking man believed to be from a clock in Lincoln Cathedral".

    After a search in the online archives at Oxford's Bodleian Library, this sketch was found (above) which illustrates an animated clock at the cathedral.
