    A man in his 50s is wanted by police after a burglary in North Hykeham:

    Police say cash and jewellery were stolen in the break-in on Station Road last weekend.

    Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen the man pictured on Sunday 26 August.

    He was wearing a blue polo shirt, but changed his t-shirt around the time of the burglary.

    The potential impact of the closure of RAF Scampton is due to be considered by Lincolnshire county councillors today.

    The home of the Red Arrows is to be sold off by the Ministry of Defence and will close by 2022.

    A total of 600 people currently work at the site, near Lincoln.

    Councillors will hear what the closure could mean for the local economy and tourism in the county.

    A 42-year-old man has been charged with three counts of wounding with intent, and one of threatening a person with a blade, after an incident in Scunthorpe earlier this week.

    Two men and a woman were injured during the alleged attack on Parkinson Avenue in the town.

    Fanel Gusatu, will appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court today.

    The assistant manager, and brother to Imps manager Danny Cowley, has been helping out at an under-8s team in North Hykeham while their coach is away.

    Nicky and his brother Danny were teachers before they found fame as the managing duo which brought league leaders Lincoln City back into the football league, to Wembley, and to the quarter finals in the FA Cup.

    A council is considering legal action because a housing estate has been left without a permanent road for over two years.

    Charter Avenue, on the Brambles Estate in Market Deeping, was developed in 2016 - but residents have been complaining about the state of the roads since it was built.

    One resident describes it as a "mess" and "like running a chicane on a racecourse".

    A meeting will be held next week to try and solve the issue, according to developers Persimmon.

    South Kesteven District Council says it will take "formal action" if the delays building the road continue.

  6. Council invests in new company to trim maintenance costspublished at 10:07 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    A district council in Lincolnshire is investing in a fourth company in a bid to cut costs on grounds maintenance.

    South Kesteven District Council is creating a company, Environment SK, in order to save money on its annual verge maintenace programme.

    Currently the authority spends £1m a year on grounds maintenance.

    The purchase of the new firm means the council has established four companies using public money in the past few months.

    The council says it hopes to generate a profit by selling its services to other authorities, and spend profits on public services.

    An archaeologist is calling for a thorough investigation of the site of a proposed animal rendering plant in Lincolnshire.

    Lincoln Proteins Limited wants to build a processing factory on Villa Farm in Norton Disney, but land near the site is littered with relics of Iron Age smelting (pictured) and Roman villa remains.

    Making the call for more investigation is Doctor Rena Maguire, who's set to visit the site to study the local archaeology and give a talk about its connection with Iron Age Ireland.

    North Kesteven District Council is expected to scrutinise plans later today, ahead of a decision by Lincolnshire County Council in the coming months.

  9. 'Liquid tipped into drain' ahead of fish and duck deathspublished at 08:00

    Members of the public have reported seeing someone pouring liquid into a drain in which numerous ducks and fish have been found dead, police in Boston have confirmed.

    Earlier, the Department of Rural Affairs (Defra) said it was investigating after at least a dozen ducks and a number of fish were found dead in the North Forty Foot Drain.

    Defra says it's analysing samples taken from the waterway.

    At least one report of someone pouring liquid into the drain has been received, police say.

    Large blocks of cheese stolen have been stolen from a burger bar in Spalding.

    Police say the thieves took the large blocks of cheese as well as cash in the theft on New Road in Spalding.

    The theft happened at some point between 23:00 and 09:25 this morning.

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

    A shipment of handguns and ammunition has been seized after being discovered on a lorry in Lincolnshire.

    Ten Heckler and Koch P2000 handguns were on a lorry at the port in Killingholme.

    Packaged alongside the pistols were 250 rounds of ammunition.

    David Abeles, 45, has appeared at Grimsby Magistrates' Court under charges relating to possession of firearms.

    Mr Abeles will appear from custody at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday.

    Fewer people are applying to be trained as teachers and those who move to the classroom are quitting within a few years, according to a Lincolnshire headteacher.

    Bill Lord, a headteacher at Long Sutton Primary School says only around one in four teachers last five years in the profession.

    It comes a day before term starts across the county.

    Last week education watchdog said that there's a "severe shortage" of teachers in the country.

    But he's praised a new approach to training teachers which involves trainees spending much more time in classrooms during their education.

    The discovery of around a dozen dead ducks in Boston has sparked an investigation by the department for rural affairs.

    Dead ducks and fish have been found in the North Forty Foot Drain in Boston over the last few days.

    It's prompted concerns from members of the public that there's something dangerous in the water.

    Margaret Nunn, who walks her dogs nearby, told BBC Radio Lincolnshire that she's concerned that whatever is killing the ducks is staying in the water.

    A Defra spokesperson said: "We have received reports that dead wild birds have been sighted in the north Forty Foot Drain. The Animal and Plant Health Agency are currently examining samples."

    Police have released a photo of this purse which has been handed into their Market Deeping police station.

    Officers say it would have been lost in 1987 and was owned by someone called Diana or Lee.

    Members of a Lincolnshire football club say they've been left with no choice but to increase security after another theft from their clubhouse.

    Spalding United FC's clubhouse was broken into on Saturday night for the second time in less than a month.

    An electronic tablet was taken and now the club is considering spending thousands on CCTV cameras.

    A farmer from Eastoft in North Lincolnshire is hoping she'll be crowned Miss England in the coming days.

    Milly Everatt is currently Miss Lincoln but today the competition in Newark for the national crown begins.

    Milly, who is from a farming family in Eastoft near Lincoln, is currently training to get her HGV licence between taking part in beauty pageants.

    Water bills are set to rise to help pay for a multi-million pound investment in Lincolnshire, Anglian Water has confirmed.

    The utility company earlier announced an £894m programme of improvements to the county's infrastructure to improve drought resilience and repair leaks.

    The improvements are needed to tackle what the firm calls "extreme weather challenges" faced by the county in the last few years.

    The BBC has now discovered that water bills will increase to pay towards the investment, though the company says they will go up by less than 1%.

    A man who was assaulted in Grimsby nine days ago has died from his injuries.

    Christopher Shipway, 46, was seriously injured in the attack which happened on the Old Market Place on Saturday 25 August.

    Mark Bennison, 36, of no fixed address, has been charged with grievous bodily harm and is due to appear at Grimsby Crown Court later this month.

    Humberside Police says it is working with the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether that charge should be changed.

    An 84-year-old woman who was killed in a car crash last week has been named.

    The two-car collision, in which three other people were injured, happened last Wednesday at Swineshead Bridge, near Boston.

    Mary Bernadette Blades was looking forward to her 65th wedding anniversary with her husband, Frank, according to a family statement.

    The couple had just celebrated the birth of their first great granddaughter.

    Family farms in Lincolnshire are being encouraged to take advantage of business advice from Prince Charles.

    His Royal Highness's Farm Resilience Programme aims to help farms improve efficiency and look for new business opportunities.

    A free workshop will take place in Louth later this year for beef, dairy and sheep farmers.
