    A family from Lincolnshire say new laws which aim to ban the sale of puppies through pet shops must go even further to improve welfare standards.

    Emily Moreton had to pay £16,000 in vets bills after buying a sick puppy.

    She says she hopes new laws will get rid of puppy farms to ensure no other family will have to experience what they have been through.

    The government say there are concerns third-party sales lead to worse conditions for the animals, compared to buying directly from a breeder.

    A consultation on new laws, which will mean those wanting to buy or adopt a pet less than six months old will have to go to the breeder or a rescue centre, ends today, external.

    You can have your say on plans for a new leisure centre in Market Rasen later.

    West Lindsey District Council plans to spend more than £6m on developing a centre which will have a 3G pitch, fitness suite, dance studio and sports hall.

    However, it will not have a swimming pool and that has lead to some criticism.

    The leader of the council, Jeff Summers, says they have planned the scheme to allow for future expansion at the site and that could include a pool at a later date.

    Stickers could appear on your bins this week as part of the county council's commitment to try and reduce contamination in recycling.

    It's part of National Recycle Week starting on Monday.

    The stickers show what can and can't go into the recycling bins.

    They also highlight some of the worst offending items people dispose of incorrectly.

    Current figures show more than a quarter of all recycling is unusable due to contamination, which means the equivalent of one lorry load in four cannot be recycled.

    Plans which could see decisions on fracking in Lincolnshire made by London-based officials have been branded "ridiculous" by county councillors, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The government says it wants to speed up the decision-making process for the exploration stage of shale gas drilling.

    But members of Lincolnshire County Council's Environment and Economy Scrutiny Panel voted to reject a government consultation to allow fracking firms to apply to Whitehall for permission to operate in the county.

    Councillor Colin Davie, executive member for economy, said decisions on the developments should be kept at a local level and that making them in London was the "wrong way forward".

    One of Scunthorpe's biggest employers, British Steel, has has won an extension to its contract to supply Network Rail.

    British Steel say it's already supplying more than half-a-million tonnes of "high quality rail" to the company, which operates and maintains Britain's rail infrastructure.

    Its current five-year contract finishes in March, but British Steel has just announced a two-year extension to this deal.

    Scunthorpe is the major beneficiary of the contract with all of the steel to be made in the town and most of the rails to be produced there as well.

    A road in Lincoln's closed this morning after a Mini flipped onto its roof in a residential street.

    Police were called to Lindum Terrace, near Lincoln County Hospital, at about 07:00.

    It's not thought that anyone was seriously injured in the incident.

    The road's currently closed while the car is recovered.

    A Lincolnshire headteacher has backed a council recommendation to extend Serco's contract, despite numerous problems.

    Serco have been fined and had issues with wage payments and other systems since taking over the contract in 2015, leading to speculation they could be dropped.

    However, councillors have been recommended to extend the £70m deal to 2022.

    Barkston and Syston Primary School experienced multiple problems, which have since been resolved and the headteacher, Sally Anne Caunter, says she backs today's news as the system is now working.

    The National Trust property near Spilsby says their old trees are "unpredictable" in very strong gusts of wind.

    High winds are forecast for tomorrow.

    Staff say the estate will reopen on Thursday 20 September.

    A man has been arrested after a robbery at a garage in Grantham overnight.

    Police were called to the Esso service station at about 02:30 this morning after reports of a robbery.

    Officers said a 20-year-old man had been arrested and remains in custody.

    Two men have been jailed after they caused the death of a pregnant mother in a crash in Lincolnshire.

    Lincoln Crown Court heard how 32-year-old Lukasz Orywal (left) fitted a makeshift tow bar to an unroadworthy van after buying it for just £300.

    He then arranged for 28-year-old Andy Hurns (right), who didn't have a driving licence, to sit in the van whilst he towed it.

    As the two vehicles sped down a hill at Leadenham, the rigid tow-bar, made from a farm jack, broke, sending Orywal's car spinning on to the opposite carriageway.

    It collided with 27-year-old Kamil Zdeb's car who was taking his family to visit friends in Spalding.

    His wife Aneta Zdeb, 26, who was 14 weeks pregnant, was sat in the back and suffered traumatic injuries to her liver and heart and died.

    Both Orywal and Hurns admitted causing death by dangerous driving.

    Hurns, of Edgbaston Drive, Retford, and Orywal, of Town Street, Lound, near Retford, were both jailed for three years and nine months and also banned from driving for four years and four months and must take an extended retest.

    Archaeologists say they've discovered the biggest Roman cemetery ever found in North Lincolnshire.

    Dozens of 2000 year old skeletons were found on a building site in Winterton.

    In some of the graves there are grave goods including pots and even a leg of lamb.

    Boston and Skegness MP Matt Warman has thrown his weight behind Theresa May's Brexit plans.

    Theresa May has been facing criticism from all parties over her plans for Brexit, with some threatening to vote it down in the Commons.

    Today, Mr Warman, who represents the most pro-Brexit part of the UK has said the so-called Chequers plan is in the interests of the country.

    The Conservative MP said Mrs May has respected the vote while posing the minimum risk for businesses.

    He added he wouldn't vote for a second referendum, saying we should stick with the vote of the first referendum.

    Lincolnshire's Ros Canter has struck gold at the World Equestrian Games in the USA.

    A clear round in the show jumping meant 32-year-old Ros, from Hallington near Louth, not only got the gold, but also secured Great Britain as World Champions and team Olympic qualification for Great Britain at Toyko 2020.

    Speaking afterwards, Ros said: "I can’t believe it; Allstar B was absolutely amazing, he was an absolute hero, I had an amazing experience in there.

    "I kept saying [to myself] just let him do his job, and I’m so proud, he’s just phenomenal.

    "There were quite a few tears when I found out which isn't normal for me."
