Family urges better welfare standards for puppy salespublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 19 September 2018
A family from Lincolnshire say new laws which aim to ban the sale of puppies through pet shops must go even further to improve welfare standards.
Emily Moreton had to pay £16,000 in vets bills after buying a sick puppy.
She says she hopes new laws will get rid of puppy farms to ensure no other family will have to experience what they have been through.
The government say there are concerns third-party sales lead to worse conditions for the animals, compared to buying directly from a breeder.
A consultation on new laws, which will mean those wanting to buy or adopt a pet less than six months old will have to go to the breeder or a rescue centre, ends today, external.
