The City of Lincoln Council is looking at plans to expand the scheme in which households pay £26 a year for a first permit, and £52 for a second.

The first two phases would see 129 houses across eight streets in uphill Lincoln join the scheme, and the third phase would include a further 3,977 properties across 76 streets.

It's hoped it will stop traffic building while motorists look for free parking spaces and stop shoppers and commuters from using residential streets to park.

A report will be looked at by councillors on 24 September.

In 1995 the state pension age was amended to make the retirement age for both sexes equal - but it is claimed some women born in the 1950s were left out of pocket.

Councillor Sarah Parkin called on the authority to lobby the government to take action.

However, members of the council voted it down because men hadn't been considered.
