Officers at City of Lincoln Council have approved an application by John Rumsey, of Riverstone Dev 1, to level the city's former Ruston Works (pictured) and William Sinclair buildings.

Objectors to the demolition called for all or part of the building to be preserved.

Ruston Factory opened in 1918 and was the country's largest producer of aircraft engines during World War One before it was put up for sale by developers.

It was last in use as a fertiliser manufacturer in 2015 when it was the home of William Sinclair Horticulture.

The application from Mr Rumsey said the works would include the demolition of "all existing buildings...hard-standings and below-ground foundations".

"All of the existing buildings on site are derelict and have been subject to considerable vandalism," it adds.

"The state of the existing buildings represent a health and safety risk and are unfit for occupation."

  12. Police cuts haven't led to rise in violent crime - MPpublished at 11:57 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2018

Suggestions that cuts to police numbers have led to a rise in violent crime have been dismissed by a Lincolnshire MP.

    Atkins

The comments by Louth and Horncastle Conservative MP Victoria Atkins come as new figures show 116 people have been murdered in London alone this year- with four killed since last Wednesday.

London's Mayor Sadiq Khan has said it could take up to 10 years to solve the capital's violent crime problem.

But Mrs Atkins, who's also a Home Officer minister, said combating violence crime "isn't just about police numbers".

She said the Home Office was taking a "wraparound approach" to tackling violent crime.

"Drugs are a major player in this rise. We know that serious organised crime is a major factor as well," she added.

"Which is why we are not just focusing on serious violence strategy, but also serious organised crime strategy to hit both ends of the violent crime cycle."
