Had it been approved, the properties would have been built on land near Ralphs Lane.

However, officers at Boston Borough Council said the development would cause significant harm to the rural location and have a detrimental impact on the character of the area.

The comments came after West Lindsey District Council dismissed a petition calling for a pool as it approved plans for a new leisure centre.

Officials say consultations into a new building, on Gainsborough Road, have already taken place.

They insist a pool would be unsustainable and would require council subsidies.

Horticultural experts are warning about an influx of Chafer grubs in the county causing damage to public and private lawns.

The warm summer is being blamed for forcing grass roots closer to the surface, providing a food source for the insects.

Birds are then tearing up grassed areas, such as playing fields and gardens, to eat them.

Jake Townsend, a gravedigger at Lincoln's Newport Cemetery, which has been affected, said: "Most people think we've had badgers and foxes but it's actually the birds that are causing the damage as they try to find the grubs."

Five sites for new urgent treatment centres to relieve pressure on Lincolnshire's A&E departments have been identified by the county's health bosses.

    boston pilgrim hospital

Hospital sites at Lincoln, Boston, Louth, Stamford and Skegness have been recommended by the Lincolnshire Sustainability and Transformation Partnership for the new service.

The move comes as NHS England plans to launch 150 urgent treatment centres by December 2019.

Earlier this year, the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust apologised after figures revealed it had the worst A&E handover waiting times in the country.

Despite the announcement, no decision has been made on services at Grantham Hospital which is still being looked at under an acute services review.

    Quote Message

We expect reduced attendance at A&E as a result of this simplified access and patients will no longer feel the need to travel and queue at A&E."
