  14. Reaction to proposed closure of Boston Marks & Spencerpublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2019

"Very disappointing news" is how a senior councillor on Lincolnshire County Council has described the news that the town's Marks & Spencer store might close.

    BBC

Around 50 jobs will go at the Boston store.

    Quote Message

As always, we will work with our colleagues at the Job Centre and the local council to support those affected. Marks and Spencer is a big presence in the town centre, and we'll play our part in finding a suitable alternative use for this unit, if the closure goes ahead. This news is a reflection of the difficulties currently facing high street retailers across the country. The future of our high streets is an issue that the council has looked at extensively, and we are ready to help them to evolve away from the traditional, retail-heavy model towards one that's more fitting for the 21st century. That way we can give them a new lease of life, ensuring our town centres remain vibrant."

Councillor Colin Davie, Lincolnshire County Council

  15. Could some Lincolnshire street lights be switched back on?published at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2019

Parish councils in Lincolnshire will have to pay up to £300 per light if they want to see their streetlights switched back on.

    BBC

Thousands were switched off by Lincolnshire County Council in an effort to save money.

The authority also says parish councils will have to agree to pay for full streets at a time to be switched on, not just individual lights.

    Quote Message

It would be for a whole named street. So it could be a couple of the lights on an individual close or it could be a dozen on a named high street through the centre of a village."

    John Monk, Lincolnshire County Council

  16. Red Arrows back on TVpublished at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2019
